We have booked our flights from Calgary to Ponta Delgada through Sata Air. We are leaving Calgary on Wednesday, September 14th and with the time change we will be arriving in Ponta Delgada on the morning of Thursday, September 15th. We will be arriving early to prepare for wedding and we plan to host a welcome event for anyone who is able to attend on Saturday, September 17th. Details to follow on the welcome event! Please do let us know your dates and plan for arrival once you have your flight booked.
Ponta Delgada is the main town and where the wedding will be held. In Ponta Delgada and the surrounding area there are lots of hotel options and AirBnBs (lots and lots of options, particularly if you want to be by the beach or would like a villa that you want to share with others). See the Travel section of the website for more insight. The island is small, and while we encourage guests to stay in Ponta Delgada, if you're renting a car you really could stay anywhere.
As part of Portugal, the Azores use the Euro as the base currency.
English is spoken by many people in the hospitality and restaurant industries. Outside of those, English is still widely used with tourists. Monolinguals should not have many issues communicating or getting around.
Temperatures should be in the 20 -24 Celsius range with occasional rain. September is a drier month for Sao Miguel, but rain is always a possibility. Temperature and conditions also change as the altitude changes. Many of the scenic areas on the island are at higher altitude and will be slightly cooler. A good idea to dress for nice summer or early fall weather, you will probably be able to wear shorts or dresses most of the time but may want to bring a wind breaker or longer pants for higher elevation touring, ie: around Sete Citades. https://www.holiday-weather.com/ponta_delgada/averages/september/
