We went here for our first date! Ben scheduled it on his birthday but didn't tell me, so we went out on March 5th and I pretended to have no idea it was his birthday (despite working in the same place, I still decided to do a quick google search before we met and discovered his birthday)! I revealed that I actually knew when the check came, but he still would not let me pay. Needless to say, the date was a smash hit! I'd recommend a "friesling" and I'm sure Ben would recommend a lager of some sort, as well as their wood fired pizza.
Located on the North Side, this little gem is a very funky and cool interactive art museum ideal for adults and older children. Tickets run around $10, but they do offer student discounts. Book online with them to reserve tickets ahead of time! Oh, and this is where Ben and I got engaged!
Less than a mile walk from our venue, The Point is one of downtown's treasures! This spot is great for the whole family. Make sure the fountain is turned on before you go, and get great views of Heinz Field, PNC Park, and the Incline. If you get there and decide you just have to kayak around the point, definitely check out 3 Rivers Kayak!
Ben and I are both Pitt grads (for undergraduate and graduate degrees) and we believe you really can't go wrong exploring the campus! Relax at Schenley Plaza, or go across the street to the iconic Cathedral of Learning (aka Cathy) to experience all the architecture, nationality rooms, and beauty! If you go up to the 36th floor, there are great views of all sides of the city.
Great beer (even for people who don't particularly like beer... Carolyn) and amazing brunch. We recommend the eggs benedict!
This is a great local market to browse for fresh breakfast and lunch, as well as a variety of handmade artisan goods.
Watch our alma mater beat Rhode Island! The time for the game is still TBD, but a mid-day game or tailgate at Heinz Field can be a great time! We'd also recommend watching the game from the Bulldog Pub in Morningside, our favorite neighborhood watering hole.
A very popular local spot for all things fall! Check their website for fall activities, including apple picking and children's activities.
Make a reservation beforehand for this amazing authentic Thai restaurant, with indoor and garden seating. If you go, be sure to order the roti!
We have spent tons of time at this beautiful park picnicking, enjoying outdoor concerts, and taking strolls. There is a beautiful walled garden you can't miss at the top of the hill.
Carolyn has spent too much money here. If you weren't aware, she collects minerals, and has spent a ton of time at GRAMs learning about specimens. The owners are super nice and will answer all of your questions, as well as let you hold any number of rare fossils, gems, and meteorites! It is just down the street from a great plant shop called City Grows if rocks aren't your thing.
A HUGE warehouse of Anthropologie floor samples and returned pieces of furniture. There are some great finds, and this is the only home outlet for the Anthro brand! We furnished our home pretty much 100% here...
