Bridesmaid
Carly and Emma met in 8th grade Spanish class. Carly’s dad made Colombian empanadas for a class presentation and brought in some aji. Emma was visibly in distress after trying some and ran into the hall saying, “I’m so spicy!” Carly followed her and after a trip to the water fountain, the rest was history. Carly and Emma developed a loving sisterhood in high school and beyond. These two were raised by very strong women and became strong women themselves. There is nothing Emma can’t do and Carly is always in awe of her accomplishments. They have shared some epic camping trips and hikes, visits in the Midwest and West coast over the years. While adults now, their love of Heath Ledger, snacks and sleepovers has remained unchanged since 2001.
Brother of the Groom
The oldest of the three McGovern boys, Brian has been lucky enough to know Kyle his whole life. Kyle owes almost all of his professional success to Brian. Kyle followed in Brian’s footsteps first at BJG and then CEB. Brian has always been extremely generous to Kyle and all of those around them – both with his time and wine/beer. Speaking of drinks, Kyle and Brian have always shared an affinity for a robust and eclectic glassware collection, despite Brian’s best attempt to break them all, accidently of course, during their time spent living together in DC. The countless care and thought Brian puts into his social gatherings are only equaled by the same care he puts into being a big brother. You’ll always hear Brian coming, but you’ll be glad he did.
Bridesmaid
Carly and Chelsea met through a mutual friend in 2014. They shared a love of medium-sized dogs with personality, planning dinner parties and screaming their lungs out at Timbers games. They spent many weekends exploring the Gorge and SW Washington in Chelsea’s spacious CRV named Carol. Chelsea kept moving but she could never escape Carly. They shared an incredible Halloween in Ashland and three Timbers Away games in Denver, Philly and NYC. Chelsea is a food science professional both at work and in the kitchen. The two love a good food project while sharing a gin cocktail or a glass of wine. Chelsea will have your back no matter what and get excited about any crazy ideas you may have. She gives the best hugs but will tackle anyone who tries to open the Caja China during Pork Your Fork.
Brother of the Groom
Forever the role model, Kyle owes a lot of his success and happiness to having Dan as an older brother. He followed in Dan's footsteps to Loyola where he met some of his greatest friends ever. Dan was also the first one to study abroad in Rome, an experience Kyle still talks about to this day. After college, and a couple more times after that, Dan was gracious enough to accept Kyle in as a roommate and the two's bond continued to grow. Whether it was late night FIFA playing or exploring Federal Hill's finest offerings, Kyle always valued time spent with his big brother. Dan has shown Kyle the blueprint for a happy and healthy family, one that Kyle can only hope to emulate in the future. It's lights out and away we go!
Bridesmaid
Carly met Corey through a mutual friend in 2010. They were roommates in a 5 bedroom palace in North Portland, lovingly called Girls Night (it was a girls night, every night). Once considered the Rome of North Portland, Corey and Carly’s house was the scene of great revelry among their friends. They hosted several holiday gatherings for friends without family nearby including a Thanksgiving with 26 guests and 15 pies. The roommates binge watched Chopped and David Tutera: My Fair Wedding before it was cool to binge watch TV. Corey has an incredibly infectious laugh and can find the bright side of any dreary day. Corey was also with Carly when she adopted her loving scrufflepup, Mr. Bates, and has always been close with her dog-nephew.
Brother of the Groom
Nicole's mean older brother that always picks on me or 'Ricky' as he's sometimes known was always close with Kyle and his brothers. They grew up around the block from each other and then became family in 2017. Ricky is envious of Kyle's Oregon lifestyle and Kyle is jealous of Ricky's beard. Ricky has always been there and is truly the life of the party, as long as the party isn't a moving vehicle. After a few years of not seeing each other, the two have reconnected on trips to Naples and family holidays. Their parents made it official a few years ago but Ricky has always been another brother to Kyle.
Bridesmaid
Carly and Hayley met on the first day of freshman year at the University of Richmond in 2006. Their first few days involved wandering around a campus that lost power during Hurricane Ernesto. They were curious, loved music and dancing and weren’t your typical UR students. During their junior year, Hayley studied in France while Carly went to India. Upon their grand return, they moved off-campus for senior year where they fell in love with the city of Richmond. Hayley introduced Carly to her favorite Southern things including Savannah, GA, sweet tea and mustard style BBQ sauce. They spent five epic NYEs together after graduation, which included travel to Richmond, Portland, the Oregon coast and Edinburgh, Scotland. Carly is in awe of Hayley's sense of adventure and admires her down to earth attitude with whatever comes her way. They are still friends even after Carly chipped Hayley’s tooth while dancing.
Groomsman
Kyle and Paul met in the summer of 2007 when both wondered why people in Cross Country kept running; ‘if you’re tired, just walk’ was their motto. Kyle, wildly impressed by Paul’s “The Regiment” t-shirt, struck up a conversation walking the last mile of what was supposed to be a 10 mile run and a friendship was born. Paul is also the one that got Kyle into playing tennis for the first time, a bond Carly and Kyle share to this day. To avoid FOMO and to hang out with his friend more, Kyle picked up a tennis racket and tried out for the tennis team. After an unsuccessful attempt to branch away from each other and not live together right away, Kyle and Paul were roommates from sophomore year through senior year at Loyola College. Paul is one of Kyle’s most well-traveled friends, spending time living in Colombia & Cote d’Ivoire. Despite the thousands of miles between them, Paul and Kyle will forever remain close.
Bridesmaid
Carly and Nell met in 2015 as coworkers. They shared a love of small flavored lattes, elaborate potluck lunches and horoscopes. Their relationship blossomed into full-blown friendship after a January hike in Cascade Locks. They’ve enjoyed many picnics, river hangs and camping trips over the past seven years. Nell, Carly and Courtney spent much of the pandemic together outside (or under Courtney’s carport) contemplating life and supporting each other through the ups and downs of the past two years. Carly can always count on Nell for a sanity check and looks up to her grace and compassion in anything that comes her way. Nell has you covered with pre-made camping meals, a crystal for any major life event and an incredible talent for photoshopping in Microsoft Paint.
Groomsman
Kyle and Wes met on the pristine turf of Eastern High School competing in the only league tougher than MLS, Zog Sports 7v7 rec soccer. Their mutual love of the beautiful game shaped an amazing friendship that early and often centered around the sport. Whether in Portland or DC, Wes and Kyle could be found at the local soccer bar, earlier than anyone wants to wake up on the weekend, watching games across Europe. Wes moved to Portland in 2015 but the two remained close. Looking for a change of pace and with the comfort of knowing one of his best friends lived there, Kyle moved out and the two reunited in 2018. If Wes was the one that brought Kyle out to Portland, Carly’s definitely the one that kept him there.
Officiant
Carly met Courtney through their AmeriCorps VISTA assignment in 2010. They were each others’ first friends in Portland after discovering they both moved here, site unseen, from the Midwest. After orientation, the two were immediate friends seeking out all of what Portland had to offer in 2010 including $1 corn dogs, trivia, hiking and holidays with friends. After their AmeriCorps positions ended, they both took jobs and set their roots in Portland. During this time, Carly always introduced Courtney as her friend that was on College Jeopardy (did it again, oops). They’ve covered a lot of ground in their 12 years together and Courtney has always been the friend Carly can count on for straight shooting advice and to go with the flow. Courtney is the best listener, relevant tweet-sender and sports-explainer you’ll ever meet.
Three Little Helpers
Kyle's nieces and nephew will be carrying rings and things to introduce the bride!
