Things To Do

When we’re in Puerto Rico, we love to soak in everything that makes the island so special—the colors, the food, the music, the people. This list isn’t just random activities—it’s some of our favorite things to do when we’re here. Something we care about deeply is supporting local Puerto Rican-owned businesses. These are the people who carry the true soul of the island—their recipes, art, stories, and traditions. Unfortunately, more and more spots are being bought out or run by outsiders, which can push locals out of their own communities. When we choose to spend our money with Puerto Rican vendors, artists, and guides, we’re helping keep the culture alive and thriving for the next generation. Plus… it just feels better. The food tastes like it was made with love, the art has a story behind it, and the experiences are so much more personal. Shopping local isn’t just good for the island—it’s the reason we leave with our hearts fuller every time.

Viejo San Juan

San Juan, San Juan 00901, Puerto Rico

If you haven’t been to Puerto Rico in a while—or ever—this is a must! We love coming here to walk, shop from local artisans, and head to El Morro to watch people flying kites, rolling down the hill, and enjoy breathtaking ocean views. It’s also a place rich with history. Between the colorful buildings, the ocean breeze, and the vibrant energy, it’s an experience you won’t forget.

Cayo Icacos

Fajardo 00738, Puerto Rico

If you have a full free day, this is one of the most unforgettable adventures in Puerto Rico! A short boat ride takes you to Icacos, a small uninhabited island with some of the bluest, clearest waters you’ll ever see. Many tours include time for swimming and snorkeling along the reef to spot fish. It’s the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure all in one day.

El Yunque National Forest

Puerto Rico

El Yunque National Forest is pure magic. It’s the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System, and it’s a must if you love nature. You can hike, swim in the river, or just breathe in that fresh, mountain air. Trust us, a day here will leave you recharged and in awe of Puerto Rico’s beauty.

Piñones

Piñones, Loíza 00772, Puerto Rico

Just a short drive from San Juan, Piñones is where you go when you want to eat like a local. Think fresh alcapurrias, bacalaítos, and pinchos—all while being steps away from the ocean. You can walk or bike along the boardwalk, stop at the little kiosks for food, and enjoy the laid-back, beach-town vibe. It’s one of those places that feels like Puerto Rico in its purest form.

Playa La Esperanza Beach

Manatí 00674, Puerto Rico

One of my absolute favorite beaches in Puerto Rico! You’ll need to take a short 10–15 minute “hike” to get there, but it’s so worth it the moment you see it. The water is crystal-clear, the crowds are minimal, and it feels like your own little paradise. There are also large rocks along the shore that we love to jump off of for fun.

Calle Cerra

Calle Cerra, San Juan, San Juan 00907, Puerto Rico

This iconic street in Santurce has been brought back to life by local entrepreneurs with new restaurants, bars, and colorful murals. We love coming here with friends and family to enjoy music, good drinks, and just have fun! If Puerto Rico was once home for you—or you’re from here—this spot is a must. Unlike La Placita, which is now packed with tourists, Calle Cerra is where locals still come together. It’s the kind of place where you can dance inside a bar or pull up a chair outside, have a drink, and enjoy the company around you.

Toro Verde Adventure Park

Orocovis, Orocovis 00720, Puerto Rico

If you’re ready for an adrenaline rush, Toro Verde in Orocovis is the spot. Home to some of the longest ziplines in the world, it’s the perfect mix of adventure and jaw-dropping views. Flying over the lush mountains feels like you’re in another world. Whether you’re here for the thrill or just to take in the scenery, it’s an unforgettable experience.
