Um, A Camp Wedding?

We can't wait to celebrate with you! The goal of this weekend - besides the nuptials, of course - is to have as much fun and relaxation with as many of our loved ones as possible... summer camp style! For those of you who enjoy films like Heavyweights, Wet Hot American Summer, Dirty Dancing, Friday the 13th, Parent Trap, and Meatballs, you know how fun camp life can be (okay maybe not Friday the 13th). For those of you not so accustomed to it, information about the camp and what to expect (such as how to get there, what the accommodations will be like, what to bring, etc) can be found under the Itinerary and FAQ sections. Our weekend at Timber Lake Camp will be just like a real summer camp getaway: complete with lakefront activities -- including swimming, canoes, and standup paddle boards -- and a 250-foot mountainside waterslide! Not to mention the heated pool, courts/fields for pretty much any sport, a 4-hole golf course, driving range, and a hiking trail. DiMauro Family - there's even bocce! Even if these activities aren't your thing, the camp's remote location - surrounded by 500 acres in the Catskill Mountains - offers the perfect environment for some quiet relaxation! When you're ready to lock down your spot with us, head over to Book Your Stay! And of course, if you have any questions, concerns, or requests, do not hesitate to contact us.

How We Met

Love at First Guacamole

A grizzled (read: calloused) veteran of the education world, Evan thought little of Elisa's fresh-out-of-Fordham idealism when they met as teachers at the same school. But what he could never have expected was that it was -- in fact -- that bright, spunky, collegiate enthusiasm for life that would be the very thing that attracted him to his eventual lifelong partner. I mean, you couldn't describe Evan with more different adjectives than spunky and enthusiastic. Nevertheless, their opposites aligned and the start of an eternity was set in motion. Evan couldn't help but notice Elisa at school. She brought a sense of joy and fun to the day for her students and her peers, and secretly, Evan wanted to be part of that fun. But how? Simple: Make her notice him. At a screening of a school sponsored movie, Evan made sure that he got the seat right next to her (bold move, he admits). They joked side-by-side through the previews, and a foundation for a relationship was born. But how could he really let her know he was interested in her as more than a co-worker? Guacamole, of course. When he found out that students in his tutoring group had never eaten guacamole, he decided he would leverage this as an opportunity to impress Elisa (and, sure, expand the pallets of his students). He made his special recipe (the secret ingredient? Old Bay Seasoning), stored it in the fridge, and double-checked with Elisa that she would be in tutoring that day. She was, she enjoyed the guacamole with Evan and his students, and sure enough, this is when she noticed him. This is the last time he cooked for her.

The Proposal

"You know I don't like surprises."

Evan hates surprises, but loves Elisa, so you can imagine that when Elisa proposed to Evan, he wasn't quite sure what to do. I mean it all made sense. Heck, Evan even had the same exact idea. Literally, he had written the plan down himself: Buy a ring in the Spring, propose to Elisa in the summer in Central Park, at the Bethesda Fountain, as we sit at our spot on the edge of the lake. He'll have his brother staked out across the water stealthily taking photos. And yet, there he was, in that moment, nearly everything exactly as he'd planned, except for the fact that it was Elisa who had planned it. A surprise, indeed. Evan worried that there may be a flash mob involved. Wanting to get to a more private place, he asked, "Can we go for a walk?" After finally processing what had just happened, it was clear that this is what they both had wanted for a while. While it took Elisa some time, Evan always knew that this relationship had the opportunity to develop into THE relationship. Although two opposites, they are quite compatible. They both find every opportunity to take care of dogs. They both love binge watching the Oscar nominated films each winter (Elisa shares her sour candy, Evan shares his chocolate). Elisa loves cooking and Evan loves eating. Elisa makes the travel itineraries and Evan translates. Evan has gotten Elisa to put her shoes in the right place by the door and Elisa has convinced Evan to shampoo his hair for more than 5 seconds. They've known for quite some time that they were meant to be, so when the question finally presented itself, the answer was an easy and a mutual YES!
