We feel so unbelievably L U C K Y for the part you play in our story, and we are so excited to include you in our celebration. For that reason, we designed our wedding weekend to be full of our favorite kind of fun, alongside our favorite kind of people. Some say JD and Steph’s relationship rests on the fate of a single rock-paper-scissors match. Others say it was JD’s boldness alone. Neither are entirely wrong. On one Thanksgiving Eve in 2016, Steph and her friend spotted JD at Marita’s on Main Street, where many great love stories begin. Given that both ladies caught interest, they decided who ought to shoot their shot in the most fair and judicious way. Needless to say, Steph pulled through with a paper-over-rock combination and spent the rest of the evening hitting it off with JD. Yet after the holiday came to a close, they traveled back to their separate lives and that’s where things ended… Until over a year later when Steph received a message from an unknown number, asking whether she would accompany this person to a wedding on the East Coast. It was JD Patterson… and completely out of left field. Steph said yes, intrigued by the prospect and impressed by his boldness. In fact, this quality was the first thing she ever loved about him. JD and Steph moved to DC together in 2019 after dating long distance and pursuing separate adventures. For them, home sometimes takes shape as a tiny downtown apartment, anywhere on the road in a car or on a bike, and—for weeks at a time—as a snug two-person tent. In other words, home is anywhere they are together. Marriage is next on the bucket list, followed by a lifetime of adventures!
