Question

Where is Mar del Plata, Argentina?

Answer

Mar del Plata is a charming coastal city located in the Buenos Aires Province of Argentina, nestled along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. As one of Argentina's major tourist destinations, Mar del Plata attracts visitors from around the country and the world, especially during the summer months. We are excited to share this beautiful destination with our loved ones!

Question

How do we get to Mar del Plata?

Answer

You arrive in Buenos Aires and then travel to Mar del Plata. If possible, we recommend you join us for the activities we have planned to explore Buenos Aires. From Buenos Aires, you have two options for reaching Mar del Plata: by car or bus (a 4-5 hour ride), or by flight (a 1-hour trip). For bus travel, you can choose between two companies we recommend: Tony Tur (https://tonytur.com/en/)) and Tienda Leon (https://www.tiendaleon.com/)). If you prefer to fly, you can book a flight from Buenos Aires to Mar del Plata with Aerolíneas Argentinas, the national airline of Argentina (https://www.aerolineas.com.ar/en-us).

Question

I am coming from out of town. Where should I stay?

Answer

If your schedule allows, we recommend spending at least one night in Buenos Aires. We suggest staying in Recoleta (where we live) or Palermo (where we like to go out). Once you arrive in Mar del Plata, you can find a list of Airbnbs and hotels in the "Travel & Accommodations" tab.

Question

What weather can I expect?

Answer

In Argentina, March marks the end of summer (with fall officially beginning on March 20th). Given Mar del Plata's coastal and southern location, it's wise to prepare for a mix of windy, rainy, and sunny weather. For comfort, we suggest opting for attire such as jeans, a shirt, and a light coat for the evening.

Question

What type of attire should I wear to the wedding?

Answer

Formal attire is kindly requested for our wedding ceremony, which will be held outdoors with some walking involved. Given the coastal location, we recommend bringing a light coat to prepare for potential windy conditions.

Question

Do I need a visa to travel to Argentina?

Answer

No, you do not need a visa to travel to Argentina as long as you have a return flight back home. Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after you plan to arrive. A new passport can take up to 3 months to process.

Question

How can I get around once I'm in Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata?

Answer

Taxis and Uber are frequently used in Argentina. We recommend using Uber with your credit/debit card to simplify things. Don't forget to let your bank know you will be in Argentina. You can rent a car, but the driving laws and customs are different so you may want to avoid that. Taxis and Ubers cost about $5 per trip on average. The taxi system in Buenos Aires is safe & efficient, but we recommend using Uber or Cabify to avoid taxi scams. (While rare, they happen.)

Question

What currency is used in Argentina?

Answer

In Argentina, the official currency is the Argentine peso. Credit cards are widely accepted, but if you prefer cash, you can exchange your dollars for pesos. Don't forget to let your bank know you will be in Argentina if necessary.

Question

Do you have recommendations for extended travel itineraries?

Answer

Yes, check out the 'Travel & Acommodations' tab for suggestions! If you want more information, let us know and we can suggest an Argentine travel agent to help you plan.

Question

Since my curling iron or hot tool from the USA operates at 110V, do I need a converter to step down the 220V electricity in Argentina to safely use it?

Answer

Actually, no—you'll need a converter that steps down from 220V (Argentina's standard) to 110V (your curling iron's requirement). Here’s why: Your curling iron is designed to operate on 110V (U.S. standard), but Argentina provides 220V electricity. If you plug it in without converting the voltage, it could damage the curling iron or even cause a safety hazard. A step-down voltage converter takes the 220V from the Argentine outlet and converts it into the 110V your curling iron requires. What You Need: Step-Down Voltage Converter: Look for one rated for small appliances like curling irons. Ensure the wattage of the converter exceeds the wattage of your curling iron. For example: If your curling iron uses 75 watts, get a converter rated for at least 100 watts. Plug Adapter: Argentina uses Type C (European-style, round pins) and Type I (flat angled pins). The voltage converter will likely have a U.S.-style outlet, but you’ll need a plug adapter to fit the converter into Argentine outlets. Alternative: Dual-Voltage Curling Iron If you frequently travel, it might be worth investing in a dual-voltage curling iron (110-240V). You’d only need a plug adapter for Argentina, and no converter would be necessary. • You can purchase this converter on Amazon: https://a.co/d/cVsir37 or https://a.co/d/gL83Gax • You can purchase this converter at Walmart: https://www.walmart.com/ip/FOVAL-Universal-Travel-Adapter-220V-110V-Voltage-Converter-Hair-Straightener-Curling-Iron-4-Port-USB-UK-AU-US-EU-India-Worldwide-Plug-Adapter-White/1339286622?utm_source=chatgpt.com&sid=e7b32c35-f32f-4420-8f37-5bef77109674
