Question

How can I truly get into the right mindset for this wedding?

Answer

All I ask is that you watch “Brother’s Keeper”, the 1984 pilot of Miami Vice. It’s on Amazon Prime Video and it's incredible. I want you to move through the city like you’re in a music video, racing your Ferrari down Collins Ave in a white linen suit with “In the Air" blaring from your speakers. I want you pulling over by the docks to call your ex on a payphone to ask them: "was it real?" I want you to not even know which side of the law you're really on as you lurch to your next big deal and wonder if you'll ever make it out of this godforsaken city.

Question

Why Miami?

Answer

1. It’s our getaway spot! In 2019 I (Cameron) briefly moved to West Palm Beach, 1.5 hours north of Miami. Anu and I had been dating for less than a year but we agreed to try long distance rather than break-up. She would fly down to PBI (god bless that airport) and we explored Miami together as our relationship grew. Our visits have continued ever since; we love the city’s mix of glamor and grit and the different worlds of different neighborhoods. 2. It’s fun for all of you! We have folks coming from all over and we wanted to choose a place that would be a fun destination for people to spend a few days. 3. Outlaw cop / drug baron lifestyle 4. For an equivalent budget in New York City, the most we could offer you would be a necromancy ceremony officiated by the fortune teller who used to illegally run her business out of my old apartment building. The venue would be a 400 sq. ft. studio in Bed-Stuy without HVAC in a five-story walk-up. People would keep stealing the floral arrangements from the building entrance and the only food would be 99 cent pizza slices. Is that what you want???

Question

How do I get around Miami? Do I need a car?

Answer

If you’re sticking within Miami it’ll be cheaper and more convenient to avoid a car rental and instead get around with ubers/bikes/walking. Parking in Miami is a hassle and in Miami Beach it’s even worse. If you want to see the national parks or otherwise get out of the city, you will need a car. Uber/Lyft Uber/Lyft are fairly cheap compared to NYC, SF, London, I’d say similar to Houston. Miami sadly does not have great mass transit; even a committed anti-car urbanist like myself gives up pretty quickly outside of Brickell and Downtown. There is a metrorail system but it doesn’t go where you will want to go. The only practical way to get between Miami and Miami Beach is a $20 uber that can take anywhere from 20-40 minutes depending on traffic. Biking Miami and Miami Beach have a single bike share network that’s quite good; it’s easy to sign up via the app (search: Miami Citi Bike) and you can get a day pass or a 3 day pass. Once you’re on Miami Beach, biking is a great way to great around; there is a long north-south path along the beach and away from a couple main streets the neighborhoods are generally quiet and pleasant to navigate. A fav activity Anu and I have done is cycling on the Venetian Way bike lane through the Venetian Islands in Biscayne Bay between Miami and Miami Beach. Pick out a modernist mansion to buy once you move here for tax reasons. The mainland doesn’t have great bike lanes but does have plenty of empty sidewalks that can be used; I get around fine but I’d only recommend to experienced city cyclists. Walking Downtown, Brickell, Wynwood, South Beach and Coconut Grove are good walking neighborhoods: compact, shaded, lots to see and do. Outside of these you’ll find you’re in for a long walk under a hot sun.

Question

can I bring a plus 1 can I bring a plus 1??

Answer

We are managing limited capacity and right now are only offering +1s to a select number of folks coming from overseas. Everyone based in the US is getting a direct invite. There is a possibility we will open up more +1s as we get a better sense of numbers but no promises.

Question

Can I bring children to the wedding?

Answer

The wedding itself is 18+, but the events on Thursday, Friday and Sunday are all child-friendly.
