How We Met

boy meets girl, girl likes boy, boy does not

Amber here! Fun fact: our parents have lived within walking distance of each other for almost 5 years. Caleb used to run by my house all the time. We didn't meet, however, until this summer (yes, we know...that's fast. When you know, you know!). We ran into each other swing dancing at a tiny dive bar in East Nashville. I fell hard and fast when Caleb (mid swing-out) casually talked about the Lord. Awkwardly, he did not fall hard and fast; he actually tried to set me up with his brother. After several months of hanging out (cooking and praying and laughing), a couple of rejections from Caleb, and a quick trip to the hospital, he finally admitted that he liked me. He's made up for lost time by loving me like Christ every single day. We've been cooking and laughing and whiskey-tasting and dancing and praying together ever since.

She Fell:

Even though I adored Caleb from the moment I met him, I went into full panic-mode once he finally started making moves. I knew that there was no way I could casually date Caleb; this man is the real deal. I put him through all the paces, introducing him to my mom and my best friend and even Matti (my roommate's dog)--he passed with flying colors on all counts. Even still, I was terrified to let him in. Then one day, we're driving with our dearest friends Josh and Misty, and Caleb and I are singing along to Jason Mraz in the backseat. I look over to Caleb and find him singing and dancing like an idiot. I mean, he used MY arm as an air guitar at one point. Looking at him dancing without a care in the world, something clicked and I knew: this was the man I want to walk through life with. I haven't had a single doubt since.

He Fell:

I remember the first time Amber turned my head and caught my eye. I was cooking in the kitchen for a house party Josh and I were having. There's nothing worse than pulling something hot out of the oven and not having a place to put it. I realized this as I'm pulling this pan out of the oven, but to my surprise, the counter is cleared when I turn around. Amber had known exactly what I needed before I knew I needed it. That was when I knew I had to get to know this woman. After I started paying attention, I saw a woman that loved others and loved God, and did both of those things well. It took me a second but I finally realized what an absolute treasure I had stumbled upon. I can't express how thoroughly I've enjoyed getting to know her as a friend, boyfriend, and fiance. I continue to learn so many amazing things about her. As I look forward to our big day and our future, I have never been so excited for my future as I am now. I can't wait for all the things that marriage will bring for us, the good and the bad. I know that even in the difficult times ahead, she is someone I want to struggle with. She has such grace and poise and patience unlike anyone I've ever met, and I can only pray that I can love her as well as she loves me.
