The easy answer when people ask how we met is 'in college', but the more detailed story is that we met in 2018 on our college ultimate frisbee team. Caitlyn wanted to join a sport she didn’t care too much about, just to make friends, but true to her personality, she still spent the entire summer training and preparing for tryouts. Ilissa, on the other hand, picked the team at random out of boredom at the involvement fair… yet she still plays today. We quickly bonded over the fact that we were both from New Jersey - not something you stumbled upon often at a Connecticut school with a huge in-state student population. The day Ilissa took Caitlyn to buy cleats sealed the deal: for Ilissa, it was the moment she realized she might actually have a chance with Caitlyn; for Caitlyn, it was all over the second she got in the car and Ilissa hit play on a Taylor Swift CD. A few years later, Taylor Swift released her song Invisible String - a song that has always reminded us of our story. We grew up only 50 minutes apart, went to high schools that played each other in sports, had mutual friends, and even lived in the same part of campus. And yet, at a university of 50,000 students, the odds still felt stacked against us... until Caitlyn’s second year and Ilissa’s third, when we finally crossed paths at a random frisbee practice. It makes the invisible string theory feel just about right. From there, life together quickly became our favorite thing. We spent late nights studying in dorm lounges, learned to cook (and actually got pretty good), lived and breathed UConn women’s basketball, and navigated the stress of internships and job applications side by side. Our college experience - the very thing that brought us together - was cut short when COVID hit, but by then we already knew this was just the beginning. After graduation, our adventures continued as we moved to Jersey City and started our careers at EY. Life has been full of new experiences - from discovering our favorite restaurants, to figuring out (and falling in love with) city living, so much so that we decided to get married in the place we call home. Every step has been fun, unexpected, and full of love, and we can’t wait to keep the adventure going.
