How We Met

November 2015

We met through a mutual friend who happened to be Caitlin's roommate. She invited a high school friend and Jason over for a hot chocolate/Christmas movie night (yes, in November...). Caitlin, being the hermit that she was, was forced to come out of her room and interact. We first saw each other in the kitchen with Caitlin looking like a frump, not trying to impress anyone. Some time passed after that night and both Caitlin and her roommate found themselves moving to a new apartment. Caitlin got Jason's number, asked him to help us move and we never stopped talking to each other after that day.

The Proposal

July 15, 2019

Jason always wanted to do something extraordinary and unique to propose to Caitlin. When word spread of a family houseboat trip to Lake Powell he knew that it would be the perfect time to do it. Knowing that Caitlin's favorite Disney movie was Tangled he concocted an AWESOME plan to have everyone release lanterns like in the movie just before he proposed by the water. Unfortunately, the lake had very specific fire regulations so this plan couldn't happen. It was on to plan B! Instead, he would take her out for a secret dinner in a hidden cove lit with candles and propose there. Of course... it's very dark on the lake and very dangerous... things weren't looking good. In a last-ditch effort, everyone banded together to set up a romantic candle-lit area complete with a cooler, wine, and a camera to record everything. The catch was that the location we were anchored at was nothing but very, very steep cliffs with only one not-so-steep cliff. In the end, Caitlin made it about halfway to the hidden spot before having a complete panic attack from the steep, unsteady trek. Jason was certain he had ruined everything and was feeling quite bad for making his girlfriend cry right before proposing. Eventually, we both calmed down and admired the beautiful view from the area we were able to reach. Jason knew it was now or never so he recited the words from the floating lantern scene in the movie, told Caitlin she was his new dream, and knelt down to ask her if she would marry him.. and she still said YES!!
