About 25 min drive. Pinones - Beachfront food kiosks, jetskis, and local vibes. Take route 26 east to Route 187 east and cross over the bridge over Boca de Cangrejos. It runs along the Atlantic coast on the north end of the Puerto Rico island. Some of the kiosks that offer Piñones Puerto Rico street food are closed on Monday and Tuesdays. But just keep driving until you find food stands (there are restaurants at the start, and then more maybe after a 5 minute drive). Enjoy the peaceful waves at La Pocita or Vacía Talega, two secluded beaches where you can go swimming or soak in the sun.
Ocean Lab Brewing Co. - A staple brewery in Puerto Rico. A prime beach-view spot with 20 of their own beers on tap, a DJ, swim-up bar, and restaurant.
Numero Uno - A "private" beach club with good food and drinks (try out the Jalapeno margarita). Also provides kite surfing next door.
La Placita (Santurce) - Lively open-air plaza with restaurants, bars, and dancing—especially vibrant Thursday–Saturday nights!
20 minute ferry from Old San Juan. Casa Bacardi - Learn about rum-making and enjoy a tasting or mixology class. Book ahead of time.
About 45-60 min drive. El Yunque National Forest - A tropical rainforest with waterfalls, hiking trails, and lush views. If you have your own car, you are able to tour on your own, however, you need to make a reservation/pay an online fee. Other option is booking through Viator, linked below.
About 1.5 hour drive. Bioluminescent Bay (Fajardo or Vieques) - Better to do tour unless you have a long week planned, stay in Vieques or Culebra (buy ferry tickets ahead of time)!
