The National Mall is a 2-mile long promenade in the heart of DC. It extends from the Capitol Building on one end to the Lincoln Memorial and its iconic reflecting pool on the other, the site of Martin Luther King, Jr’s “I have a dream” speech and where Jenny ran to Forrest Gump in the movie classic. The Mall is surrounded by Smithsonian National Museums (many of which offer free admission), including the National Museum of Natural History (where you will find Henry the Elephant), National Gallery of Art, the Air and Space Museum, National Museum of American History, National Museum of the American Indian, National Museum of African American Culture and History among many others. You will also see the Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. The final destination is the stunning Lincoln Memorial and the reflecting pool.
The Cherry Blossom Festival is a wonderful Spring celebration and will be in full swing during our wedding. There are various events during the month-long festival, which is most notable for the beautiful Cherry Blossom bloom along the Tidal Basin Loop Trail. Take in the views and great picture opportunities!
Want to get closer to the water and get in a little bit of shopping? Make your way to Georgetown for a classic DC feel while walking by many cute boutiques and the original Georgetown Cupcake. There is a lovely riverside walk along the Potomac River with fine dining. You can also take a walk through Georgetown University, where Patrick Lu, the bride’s father, did his post-doctoral studies and where you can marvel at the beauty of the iconic Healy Hall. For you horror film fans, you can even find the Exorcist Stairs on the Georgetown campus.
Our wedding will be just across the street from the President’s residence, so if you would like a tour, you can contact your local representative to get a guided tour, or if you’re from outside the US, you can contact your embassy in the US and request a tour.
