Pfeiffer Beach
A picturesque tiny beach. $15 parking fee and the parking lot fills up quickly - particularly on the weekend. It's a windy couple of miles to the beach from Hwy 1 and there is no sign for the beach on highway one. We'd recommend going on Thursday or Friday and beat the weekend crowds.
Andrew Molera State Park
Just a couple of miles north of Big Sur River Inn. The Day Use Parking lot is $10 but you can park on the road and walk in. Creamery Meadow Trail (an easy 2 mile round trip) will get you to the beach but you'll have to take your shoes off to cross the Big Sur river. (the river was about knee high in March). Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park
Just a couple miles south of BSRI. This park features several trails amongst the redwoods. Valley View and Pfeiffer Falls is a moderate 2 mile hike paid off with a view down the Big Sur River. Big Sur Gorge is less a hike and more rock hopping - water shoes are recommended and it can be treacherous so be careful. $10 day use fee or you can park on HWY 1 and walk in. For those of you staying at Fernwood, you can walk into the State Park from the south end of the Fernwood campground (past the last RV Cabin).
