Oh, you have to try The Baker while you're on Ambergris Caye! Seriously, it's the perfect little coffee spot. We have stopped by for breakfast here every time we visit the island. Their cinnamon rolls were out of this world- so amazing they actually sell out fast, so definitely go early. Everything is baked fresh, the coffee is great, the juices are fresh squeezed, and the whole place just has the best, breezy, cozy vibe.
This café the perfect little spot when you need a caffeine fix and a break from the heat, since they have great A/C and Wi-Fi. Seriously, their coffee is gourmet, but they also have awesome fresh juices, smoothies, teas, and elixers. Try the ginger-lime juice! If you're looking for something plant-based, they have a TON of options, like their delicious avocado toast or the veggie and pesto panini. It's my go-to when I want a chill, modern cafe vibe and lighter breakfast/lunch fare.
Estel's Dine By the Sea is the classic casual beachfront spot! You can literally eat breakfast with your toes in the sand while watching the sunrise right over the water. They serve the best authentic Belizean breakfast, especially their famous fry jacks, and it's super charming because they write the daily specials on a chalkboard. They're always delicious too. It’s the essential, laid-back island dining experience you won't want to miss. Cam and I go here for a cheap and satisfying breakfast A LOT.
This bakery feels like stepping into a little slice of Paris. The owners are actually French, and everything from the rich and custard-y pastries to the warm baguettes is authentic and divine. If you need something savory, grab one of their huge baguette sandwiches or a yummy cheese croissant; they're perfect for lunch. We both really love the almond and chocolate croissants. They are pure heaven.
This is one of those unexpected gems on the island...who knew you could get Canadian smoked meat in the Caribbean? You absolutely must try the Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich; or if you're just craving some comfort food their poutine is famous. They serve it with the smoked meat right on top. The vibe is super chill too. They're in a really pretty courtyard setting, and they even have this cool rooftop area overlooking the street and beach. The owners are really friendly, and they give you big girl portions, so you definitely won't leave hungry. It’s perfect for a satisfying and carnivorous lunch.
A great little spot for amazing, super fresh seafood! They're famous for their daily specials- get whatever fresh catch they have and have them prepare it "Island Style" with their delicious coconut curry sauce. It's a small, local place with a bright atmosphere, the staff is really friendly, and it's a fantastic value for such good food. It's a must-try for dinner on the island!
This spot is one of the most famous and historical restaurants on the island! The atmosphere is unique because they have sand floors, plus the ceiling is decorated with Mayan masks, giving it a really cool jungle vibe. You must try their Mayan Fish or the Street Corn, and if you can, go on a Friday for the famous seafood buffet. It’s definitely more of an upscale experience than some of the other spots, but totally worth it for a special dinner! Reservations recommended.
For a really great dinner with a beautiful view, you should definitely check out Blue Water Grill! It's located right on the beach, so you get to eat right over the water, which is amazing for sunsets. They are famous for their excellent fresh seafood, but the surprise hit is their incredible sushi...they have a sushi night twice a week with some really creative rolls! It's a slightly more upscale spot and perfect for a romantic evening, but the food and the ocean view are totally worth it.
Okay, forget souvenirs- the real place you have to hit up is the Belize Chocolate Company. They make all their amazing chocolate right there using cocoa beans grown in Belize, so it's as pure of chocolate as it gets. You guys have to try their famous chocolate ice cream or the frozen hot chocolate, both are perfect cool-down treats. You can grab a few bars with flavors like chili and sea salt, or just indulge in a ridiculously good cup of rich chocolate goodness!
This is basically the official HQ for the national beer, so they have all the different varieties-you gotta try the Lighthouse Lager when it's ice-cold. Plus, they always have cool hats and gear to rep the local brew, so you can grab some swag. It’s the perfect, mandatory pit stop before we head back to the beach or the pool.
At the Tasting Room you get to sample a bunch of high-quality, Belizean-made rums, and the staff is super knowledgeable. They have these amazing infused rums too like coffee/chocolate or even jalapeno/pineapple. Plus cute lil souvenir shot glasses! It’s the perfect, air-conditioned break from the beach, and you can grab some bottles to take home.
Alright, so speaking professionally, if you're looking for quality varietals on the island, you need to head straight to Wine de Vine. It’s the only real source for a curated selection- they actually carry some solid labels and niche producers that cut through the typical vacation offerings. Plus, they run a small deli counter, so you can pair your bottle perfectly with some genuinely high-quality cheeses and charcuterie. Happy to offer wine recommendations!
If you want to get out on the water and see the Barrier Reef book with Searious Adventures! They are one of the most reliable companies for snorkeling and diving trips, especially to the famous spots like Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley. Their guides are fantastic- knowledgeable and focused on making sure everyone has a safe and fun time. It’s the perfect, stress-free way to spend a day exploring the best of the Belize sea!
So, Secret Beach is totally a must-do, even though it's not much of a "secret" anymore. It's located on the west side of the island (the side not facing the reef) so the water there can be different- it's usually very calm, shallow, and bright turquoise blue, which is perfect for just chilling and wading. You have to rent a golf cart to get up there and pay a toll as well, but once you arrive, there are a ton of cool beach bars, restaurants, and places with over-the-water hammocks and cabanas. It's the ultimate sunny, hang-out spot for the whole day, and the vibe is always fun and relaxed. Definitely leans more "tourist-y" but I think it's cool to at least check out once!
