Roam the blocks of Downtown Athens to get food, drinks, and shopping. Athens is home to the most bars per capita in the United States. A townie tip: bars located east of Lumpkin Street are considered college bars (Lumpkin St. is nicknamed "The Khaki Line") but can be fun, and of course have the best drink specials in town. Bars on the Westside of Downtown are usually much more chill, and have a slightly older clientele. We love them all in their own ways. College bars to check out: Cutter's, Magnolia's, Walker's, Paloma Park Dive Bars: Nowhere Bar, Manhattan, Roadhouse Local Favorites: The Globe, Little Kings, Blue Sky
Caitlin works at Creature Comforts as the Safety & Compliance Manager at their production facility located about a mile from the downtown taproom. She has worked at Creature Comforts since the first day they opened. Creature Comforts has been ranked as Georgia's best brewery, and serves some of the finest quality beers in the country (no bias here). Tropicalia IPA is one of the most popular beers in the Southeast, and is even Thor's beer of choice in Avengers: Endgame. The downtown taproom boasts a wide range of styles from hazy IPAs to fruited sours, and even a hand-pull English-style cask tap. Tell them you know Caitlin and Brooke :)
Hi-Lo is one of the best bars and restaurants in Athens. Located in the Normaltown neighborhood, it's a great spot to get away from the craziness of downtown. Hi-Lo has the best beer selection in town (Caitlin promises). Hot dogs, sandwiches, and homemade soups are on the menu.
Located next to Hi-Lo, The Old Pal is a lowkey cocktail bar with the best cocktails in Athens.
Oglethorpe Garage is located a few miles from downtown and is a lowkey local hangout. Beer, wine, and spirits. Grab a drink for the patio and watch folks work on their motorcycles in the garage free to all riders swinging through.
The iconic music venue located in the heart of Downtown Athens. The Georgia Theater Rooftop is open every day there is a show at the theater. Local beer, and a great food menu with a view of downtown and the University of Georgia campus. Dance parties late night.
LGBTQ bar and restaurant. Beer, wine, and cocktails in mason jars. Amazing food including a chicken & waffle club and wings with homemade sauce. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. Located next door to Little Kings.
One of the best restaurants in the Southeast. The National has upscale Mediterranean food, but like most nicer restaurants in town, you're fine in jeans and a t-shirt.
Sister restaurant to The National, Seabear is a cool and hip oyster bar just a block away from Downtown Athens. Oysters on the half shell and a full seafood menu. Get the Negroni slushy, you won't regret it (but you may if you get two).
Great local coffee spot located a block outside of Downtown Athens.
