We love to travel, so always considered a destination wedding-this one just came together a little late ;) We chose Portugal after visiting ourselves and being enamored with its charm, coastline, architecture, incredibly kind people and stellar wine. It doesn't hurt one of Bridg's BFFs, Trish lives in the Azores too! With the cost of living a bit lower here than other Euro countries, we hope that will help our guests too-though we completely recognize the investment in time & monetarily for many of you to be here. We hope you fall in love with the country & its people like we have!
Flying into the Porto airport is closest if you're flying in! Monverde/Amarante are a 50min drive from Porto Airport and reachable via Uber, Taxi or rental car if you need help with other transportation options, reach out to Bridget or Lex.
Please RSVP through our website (RSVP tab at the top!) by May 17th!
Kids are not invited to the wedding or reception-only our nieces and nephews will be included. We love your lil nuggets and totally love (and relate to!) the plan of traveling together, let us know how we can help with coordinating sitters as needed.
Unless specified on your invitation and RSVP on our site, we have not accounted for a date for you. We are trying to accommodate as many loved ones as possible! If you have any questions about this, reach out to Bridget & Lex.
Yes! Please do so through the RSVP option for either/both the welcome party and wedding. Reach out to Bridget or Lex if you have any other questions about this!
YES! We loved driving around both the Portuguese countryside and coastline. They drive on the right side of the road/left side of the vehicle just like the U.S. They have both manual and automatic car options as well. The biggest downside is the cost of fuel: 3-4x the price in the U.S.!
Yes! Parking will be available on site. Ubers and taxis are also available in the area, and there will be a shuttle transporting those staying in Amarante (more on the "Travel & Lodging" tab; additional detail to come on pickup time/location!)
Your PASSPORT!, power converters (plug type C & type F both work in most cases; Portugal operates on 230V supply voltage and 50Hz), external chargers for your phone, casual attire for the welcome party, colorful(!!) cocktail attire for the wedding, comfy walking shoes for the vineyards and cobblestone streets and an appetite for wine and good meat & seafood.
L.O.V.E.L.Y. (and let's hope it's that way on the wedding!): Warm during the day (mid-60s/low 70s); cooler at night (~50s). Plan to bring a light jacket/shawl/something for the nighttime!
Local food: Lots of seafood & meat including salted codfish (most Americans don't love-but locals do!), arroz de pato (duck) or marisco (seafood), alheira (pork-ish sausage), Francesinha (HEAVY cheesy, meaty, saucy sandwich Lex insists you have to try once), bifana (simple sammie with thinly sliced pork and fresh baguette), pastel de nata (have to try for bridg! delicious custard tarts). Sardines (sardinhas assadas) are also a must!! Local drinks: Vino verde (literally translates to young wine: crisp & refreshing-also so reasonably priced; can be red/white/rosé), Port (after dinner/more dessert wine we LOVE; very sweet), Porto Tonic (port wine & tonic!), Sagres beer, Medronho (their aguardente; 48% alcohol(!) made with the local fruit "medronho", Caipirinha (national cocktail of Portugal & Brazil)
We may add a few other completely optional events around the wedding-will update our site if that's the case!
Dancing during this celebration is a MUST. Minor exceptions made, but must be approved by Bridg & Lex.
