The Proposal Story

On the morning of July 27th at 3AM, Leif had the bright idea to wake Bri up for a sunset hike up Dog Mountain in the Columbia River Gorge. Bri, naturally, responded with a flat "No". After much convincing, we made the short drive to the base of the mountain - which other hikers had described as "a calf burner". Around a mile and a half into the hike- up near vertical trails- we arrived at the first lookout. The sun was getting ready to rise and the views were breathtaking. Leif, with his one-track mind, had decided on making it to the second lookout which was supposed to have the best views on the entire mountain. So, he ushered Bri further up the trail. "We have to run! We can make it, its only about a mile further up the trail". At this point the path got even steeper. As they ran up the trail, they emerged into a clearing where the second lookout was supposed to be, but some clouds had blown, in out of nowhere, and completely socked the mountain in . Thus blocking any view that may have been. Then it began drizzling, the cherry on top to the unfortunate chain of events. Leif suggested making the trek back down to the first lookout where the views were below the cloud level and still beautiful, but Bri said "Nope, we made it up here, so we are seeing the views from here" as she sat down on the edge of the trail. After 10 minutes of sitting the rain, the clouds began to part, just enough to get a decent view of the Columbia River below, so Leif ushered Bri down to the lookout. As Bri was taking pictures, Leif got down on his knee behind her and began with "the last 4 years have been magical". Bri simply responded with "I wouldn't call them magical" in a snarky tone. She then turned around to see the view from the other side and was stunned, seeing Leif and the ring, she just stood there with a goofy grin as Leif asked, "Will you marry me?" After a long pause Leif had to ask again "so, uh, will you?" With that, Bri snapped out of her trance and said "Yes!"
