Located about halfway between Portland and Hood River, Multnomah Falls is a must see on your drive along the Columbia River Gorge. It's located right off the highway and can be seen from the parking lot, though we recommend walking around the nearby trails to get different vantage points! If you plan to see the falls, we recommend arriving EARLY (before 9am), as the parking lot is closed once it is full, and it is possibly the most popular attraction in the region. If you want to make a day out of it, there are nearby hikes from the falls, as well as a lodge that is open from 8am-6pm (Brian recommends the Rainbow Trout with Eggs).
This little town has a ton to offer! From the cute restaurants, breweries and wine bars, to the local shops, it's a great place to spend a few hours walking around or grabbing a drink or bite to eat. Some of our favorites include Brøder Ost (Scandanavian-style breakfast), Mike's Ice Cream, Egg River Cafe, Ground Coffee Bar, and more.
Located along the Hood River Waterfront, pFriem brews some of the best beer in town. They also have a full kitchen menu if you're looking to grab a bite. There tends to be a long wait on weekends, so be prepared to explore the waterfront if you visit during a busy time of day.
Grateful Vineyards is a small farm, winery, and brewery located about 25 minutes from downtown Hood River. Located at the foot of Mount Hood, it offers absolutely stunning views of the mountain along with gorgeous fields of sunflowers. They've also got great pizza!
Feeling adventurous? Rent a kayak, paddleboard, or sign up for a tour to explore the Columbia River! The launch is right along the Hood River waterfront. Call ahead to make a reservation.
On the way to Hood River from Portland, stop at the Vista House for an incredible view of the Gorge. On the way, you can drive historic Route 30 (the nation's first planned scenic byway!). It is a bit of a twisty road, but the views are well worth the time.
About a 30-minute drive west of Hood River, Walking Man brews excellent beers and provides a wonderful menu for snacks or lunch. Located in Washington State, you will need to drive across the scenic Bridge of the Gods ($2 toll) to get to Walking Man.
This is such a fun way to spend a couple of hours! July is a great month for visiting Oregon if you're into fresh produce. The Fruit Loop is a route that winds its way from Hood River to Parkdale/Mt. Hood and back, dotted with farm stands selling all kinds of berries, cherries, lavender, peaches, pears, and more! Many farms have the option to pick your own fruit or lavender, if you're looking for an outdoors activity!
Take a scenic ride through the valley on this cool historic train! Rides last about an hour, you can find out more on their website!
