We met through work. Brian arrived for his interview with the company for whom I am the receptionist. I answered the door when he rang the buzzer, and he looked at me, and I looked at him and he said: "What? Are you gonna frisk me?" The question really threw me off my game. I stuttered something--I can't remember what it was--that sounded really dumb, and walked away to announce that he had arrived for his interview. He quickly got hired as a project manager for the company, and from then on the most unabashed and gag-worthy flirtation ensued until finally two years later, after many unofficial group "dates" with office colleagues after work, he called me 10 times in a row the night before Thanksgiving, 2015, trying to see if I would accompany him to his family's Thanksgiving celebration the next day. When I finally looked at my phone, saw all the missed calls from him, I called him right away, with butterflies in my stomach--he really wanted to talk to me! Well, I accompanied him to his family's Thanksgiving, even though my girlfriend thought that it was a bit forward and premature for him to ask and me to go. I later found out that he had already made the decision that he wanted to marry me, and so in his mind, taking me to meet the family was just one of those checklist items that had to happen. After that, we were inseparable, and 2 years later, in the wee hours of the morning, Monday, March 20th, 2017, at 3am, after I had worked a full weekend shift at Hannah's House, and then driven to Grand Rapids with my brother Pete and his girlfriend Sophie to Pick up Brian, who had gone with his niece, Madeline, to a Miranda Lambert Concert that night--after which many high jinks ensued--he got down on one knee (he almost didn't make it back up--poor guy), in the presence of myself, Pete, and Sophie, handed me a bouquet of roses and a ring and asked me to marry him. I said yes :)
