During the spring and fall of 2016, the Tiny House in My Backyard (THIMBY) project rose from the bed of a 24' long trailer into a 14' tall off-grid tiny house on wheels. Laney, an inexperienced builder but tenaciously determined mobilizer of people, cultivated a fast friendship with Brett, a skilled carpenter and gifted leader of teams, who would pick her up some mornings on the way to the build site always with coffee to share. During these months of building, their relationship unfolded over trips to the hardware store, runs along the Bay Trail and up in the hills, cutting wood on the chop saw, and installing cutting edge home energy technologies. Then, in October 2016, the house was finished and the competition complete, and it seemed as if Brett and Laney's time together was also up. But, fortunately, Brett asked Laney out on a date later in the fall, and we had a smashing good time. We moved into the tiny house together the following spring, and the rest is history!
