Brett and Cassidy first met back in Jr High during recess. Cassidy was instantly hooked after seeing Brett's blonde flipped hair, blue eyes and bench jackets, while Brett thought Cassidy's crooked buck tooth smile and her playful personality was cute. As like most Jr high relationships their little fling came to an end, mainly due to the fact that Cassidy wanted most of Brett's attention. Meanwhile all Brett wanted was to play video games, sports, and hang out with friends. Many years later (and a set of braces for Cassidy) Brett made the first move and asked Cassidy out for coffee. After this the two of them were inseparable and you will now find that Brett wants all of Cassidy's attention (I guess absence does make the heart grow fonder). They have now been together for 3 years. In this timespan they have moved into a new house located in Red Deer, got a beautiful dog named Darby, and now the three of them can't wait to see what the future holds.

Brett and Cassidy went to look at rings a year before the proposal. About 6 months later, Cassidy started dropping 1 or 2 hints a month. This became a weekly event and then eventually they were having discussions about being engaged daily. This took Brett about a month to finally put all of the hints together and go purchase the ring. Brett chose to pop the question while they were on a walk at a local walking trail which they had one of their first dates together. He definitely could have chosen a better day because it was -30. But the ring was already in his pocket and nothing was going to turn Brett around (not even Cassidy's constant complaining about the weather). They got to the spot and Brett pointed at their dog Darby who was rummaging through garbage behind Cassidy. This gave Brett enough time to pull out the ring and drop to one knee before Cassidy could turn back around. Brett made a speech on the spot about how grateful he was that they met almost 15 years ago in Jr High and how much Cassidy means to him. Cassidy couldn't believe it was actually happening, especially because Brett didn't actually ask Cassidy the question. So after Cassidy said "well you have to ask me" she was finally able to say yes. Brett says that he was not nervous about proposing at all and felt more like he was asking his best friend if she would like to stay best friends for the rest of their lives.
