Colorado is home to 58 mountains above 14,000 ft. and Buena Vista is in a skip and a hop to many of these peaks. The first peak that Brandon hiked waaaay back when was Mt. Huron and it is a good recommendation for a first hike. PLEASE BRING LOTS OF WATER AND BE OFF THE PEAK BY 11am. The best time to start hiking is around 6 - 7 am. The app "hiking project" is a great way to learn more about the trails.
There are some great beginner / intermediate rides right in the town of Buena Vista, and one of our favorite rides is just south in the town of Salida (Cottonwood Trail). There are many good bike rental companies in BV, but please book in advance. The Ranch also has bikes for rent, but if you want high quality then a local bike shop is your best bet. We are certainly going to try for a ride Friday morning if anyone wants to join!
Salida is a wonderful little town South of BV. If you want a little more 'buzz' then this is a wonderful place to get lunch by the river!
October is getting a bit late to raft, but the river is beautiful. It stretches North to South across the entire valley. You will need to get in a car to access it.
Looking for a great local brew? come check out this place in BV and relax by the river
Looking for some amazing fall colors? Look no further than the ghost town of St. Elmo. This tiny town lights up in the few weeks of Fall and hosts many great hikes.
The famously beautiful Colorado Trail runs right next to the ranch. Strap your hiking shoes on and go for an adventure!
Want to relax in a hot open-air pool fed by local spring water? Mt. Princeton hot springs can get pretty busy on weekends, but wow is it a wonderful place... and only a 2min drive away!
Want to see one of the most beautiful mountain passes in Colorado? Just google "cottonwood pass" and begin your drive West from Buena Vista. The road was under construction for a few years and just opened up... it is amazing.
