FAQs

Question

What Should I Wear?

Answer

For the Ceremony and Reception: If the term 'refined country' means anything to you, then wear that! (Boots and sports jackets are all welcomed) For all other occasions: No dress codes, but please wear comfortable footwear! A good pair of close-toed shoes will be a must! Besides from some sidewalks, the majority of the ranch has gravel roads and trails to walk along.

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Kids are welcomed! We did ask that kids do not join for dinner, but things have changed so please feel free to bring them or grab a plate and take it back to them wherever they are.

Question

When Can I Check In?

Answer

The ranch is reserved for Friday and Saturday for our guests (i.e. you have access to the full ranch and can check in anytime). If you wish to book Thursday night, you will do so directly with the Ranch.

Question

How will payments for the accommodations on the Ranch be handled?

Answer

All the cabins and lodge rooms for Friday and Saturday night have been reserved by the bride and groom. Once we know you are able to attend, we will assign you a room and send you a request for the amount of the room. The ranch has reserved Thursday night for us, but if you wish to stay that night you will need to book directly with the ranch and request the same room you have been assigned for Friday and Saturday.

Question

What is the location of the Ranch

Answer

The address for EVERYTHING (Ranch, cabins, lodge, ceremony, etc.) is: 16825 County Road 162 Nathrop, CO 81236 Please be aware of wildlife when you are driving to the ranch. Also, about 2 minutes before you arrive at the ranch you will pass by the Mt. Princeton Hotsprings, which we encourage you to attend, but there will be many people in that vicinity so please drive carefully.

Question

What is the best way to get around the Ranch?

Answer

Walking in comfortable close-toed shoes will be the best way around the ranch. Regardless of what cabin you are in, you will be just a few minutes away from the Lodge where dinner and dancing will occur. Transportation to and from the ceremony site and the lodge will be provided. However, you are more than welcome to walk (~5min towards the Chalk Cliffs from the Lodge).

Question

What will the Weather be like?

Answer

Good question! We are hoping to have an outdoor wedding and expect temperatures to range from the mid-50's to mid-70's during October. If the weather cooperates (i.e. no rain or snow), a light sweatshirt/windbreaker may be a good thing to bring when out during the day, and a light jacket for night. Please note Buena Vista is located at about 8,000 feet and surrounded by mountains that can reach 14,000 feet - thus the weather can change fast and sunscreen is a must. If the weather does not cooperate, the ceremony will be hosted inside at Centennial Hall (just North/towards the cliffs of the Lodge). Please check the weather forecast before you leave home to get the most up to date information on weather!

Question

Is there parking on site?

Answer

If you are staying in a cabin you can park outside of it. If you are staying in a lodge, please park your car next to the basketball court which is located about a 5 min walk away (the South-West corner of the ranch).

Question

Meals / Food / Fight the Hunger

Answer

The nearest grocery store is about 20min away, in Buena Vista. For those staying in the cabin you have a full kitchen that you are welcome to cook in. For those staying in the lodge, there is a full kitchen on the main level that you can also cook in.

Question

Is there cell phone service or Wifi?

Answer

Cell phone service is very limited, but the ranch has wifi in each cabin and lodge room that works well. There are phones at the Office if needed. When we stayed there in March, we were able to make some phone calls while on the ranch, so this might just be a non-issue.

Question

I have a restricted diet, do I need to make other plans?

Answer

We are ensuring that at least some of the food is gluten-free, nut-free, and dairy-free. If you have other allergies please let us know!

Question

Drinking on the Ranch

Answer

Please limit drinking to your cabins and the lodge. There are full-time residents who live on the ranch who may not be as enthusiastic as you are at the fact we are getting married :)

Question

Smoking on the Ranch

Answer

The Ranch has a strict no Mary-Jane policy. As for cigarets and cigars, please dispose of them properly (In the Trash!). Additionally, we will be in the 'dry' season of Colorado so please ensure your 'smoke' doesn't 'light up' the whole wedding. It would not have been the first time a cigaret caused a forest fire in Colorado.

Question

Can I camp on the Ranch?

Answer

Most likely we will be able to let you camp on the ranch if you have an RV or a trailer. Please let us know if you intend to do this. Tents are not allowed.

Question

Other things to note!

Answer

Please note the following: * At night it will be dark! We recommend you bring a light of some-kind to get around. * High Altitude: Drink a lot of water! * Watch for wildlife: You will likely see a lot of deer on the Ranch, but please do not feed or try to pet them. Also, when deer are around, other things can come around, such as bears and mountain lions. Please note it is HIGHLY unlikely you will see either, but if you do please 1) stand tall, 2) face the animal - never turn your back, 3) Walk slowly backward, 4) make a lot of noise. * Watch for snakes: Rattle snakes may be in the vicinity, so if you hear any rattling please just take some steps back and find another path. Snakes like to sit on rocks and sometimes the road to collect the heat when the sun goes down. Please note snake bits are very rare, so no need to panic, but it is better to be aware. * Traffic on Sunday's can get pretty bad... if you are leaving from DIA we suggest you plan for a 4-5 hour drive from BV to DIA
