While You’re in Town

Because Jonathan is from England and Bonnee from California, their wedding isn’t just a celebration of an epic love story; it’s also a gathering of loved ones from all over the world. They’re beyond grateful to everyone making the journey to be there. It truly means more than they can say. They also feel incredibly lucky to be celebrating in beautiful Southern California, and they want to help you make the most of it. Below are some of their favorite local spots—places they love and hope you’ll enjoy too. If you’re looking for something specific or need a personal rec, don’t hesitate to reach out to Bonnee. She’s happy to help!
Newport Beach Pier

Newport Beach Pier

1 Newport Pier, Newport Beach, CA 92663

A classic SoCal landmark, the Newport Pier is perfect for a breezy walk, ocean views, or catching the sunset. Grab a coffee or acai bowl from one of the nearby cafés, watch the surfers, or stroll the beach hand-in-hand. It’s laid-back, scenic, and just a short drive from anywhere in Newport. A must for soaking in those easy OC vibes.

Blackie's Beach

Blackie's Beach

2118 West Oceanfront, Newport Beach, CA 92663

Just north of Newport Pier lies Blackie’s Beach—named after the beloved Blackie’s by the Sea dive bar founded in 1953. With its friendly surf‑break vibe, cold beer just steps from the sand, and laid‑back local scene, it’s the perfect chill spot to watch waves, grab an ocean‑view drink, or hang with fellow beach lovers.

Sancho's Tacos

Sancho's Tacos

3014 W Balboa Blvd, Newport Beach, CA 92648

A local favorite and a special spot for Bonnee and Jonathan. Bonnee has shared countless post-surf breakfasts here with her dad, and it was one of the first places she brought Jonathan during his first visit. Now it’s one of their go-to stops together. With bold flavors, unbeatable chips and salsa, and favorites like the Skrimps Taco (hers) and Skrimp’s Carnal (his), Sancho’s is a laid-back must for beachside bites.

Balboa Island

Balboa Island

Newport Beach, CA

A charming harborside gem in Newport Beach, Balboa Island is Bonnee and Jonathan’s go-to escape for seaside fun. They love strolling down Marine Avenue, browsing the boutique shops, and indulging in a famous frozen banana treat. A short walk lets you soak in the colorful harbor views, then hop on the quaint Balboa Island Ferry to the Fun Zone for arcade games, Ferris wheel rides, and harbor cruises. It’s a perfect blend of relaxed strolls, small-town charm, and coastal indulgence—ideal for a romantic date or a fun day out.

The Original Mama D's Italian Kitchen

The Original Mama D's Italian Kitchen

3012 Newport Boulevard, Newport Beach, CA 92663

Bonnee and Jonathan’s favorite spot for Italian food in Newport Beach. Just a block from the beach, this cozy, family-run restaurant is known for its fresh pasta, warm service, and that addictive garlic bread. Whether it’s a casual date night or a comforting meal with family, Mama D’s always hits the spot.

Lido Marina Village

Lido Marina Village

3434 Via Lido, Newport Beach, CA 92663

A favorite spot for Bonnee and Jonathan to wander, shop, and grab a bite by the water. Lido blends beachy charm with stylish boutiques, great coffee, and some of Newport’s best harbor views. Whether you’re window shopping or just enjoying the scene, it’s an easy, scenic place to spend an afternoon.

Herst Coffee Roasters

Herst Coffee Roasters

3400 Via Lido, Newport Beach, CA 92663

A favorite stop for Bonnee and Jonathan when they’re in Lido. Herst serves up top-notch espresso in a clean, modern space with great indoor and outdoor seating. It’s a solid place to grab a coffee and take a breather before exploring more of the marina.

Bear Flag Fish Company

Bear Flag Fish Company

3421 Via Lido, Newport Beach, CA 92663

A local favorite for fresh, fast seafood in Newport Beach. Known for its laid-back vibe and ultra-fresh fish, this counter-service spot is perfect for a casual lunch or dinner by the harbor. Bonnee’s go-to is the pokē, but you’ll also find fish tacos, burritos, and sushi rolls that are just as popular. Ideal for grabbing something delicious after a beach walk or shopping nearby.

Huntington Beach Pier

Huntington Beach Pier

Main St. & Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA 92648

Bonnee and Jonathan have spent countless days walking this iconic pier together, and it’s one of their favorite spots in Surf City. The views are stunning, especially at sunset, and there’s always something happening nearby. On Tuesdays, Main Street hosts a lively street fair with food vendors, live music, and local goods. From Friday to Sunday, a maker’s market at the base of the pier offers handmade art, clothing, and fun finds.

602 Coffee

602 Coffee

602 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA 92648

Named after its street address, this laid-back café in Huntington Beach is Bonnee and Jonathan’s favorite coffee spot. With unbeatable views of the Pacific Coast Highway and a cozy vibe, it’s the perfect place to grab a drink and stroll the shore. Bonnee swears by the iced strawberry milk matcha, while Jon keeps it classic with an americano and a splash of half and half. If you’re lucky, you might even spot dolphins out in the surf.

Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ

Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ

7862 Warner Ave., #109, Huntington Beach, CA 92648

Bonnee’s all-time favorite spot, and home to some of her and Jonathan’s most meaningful memories. It’s where Jon first met her best friend and maid of honor, Janette, where they had lunch with her dad after asking to marry her, and where Bonnee unknowingly celebrated the night he flew in to propose. Gyu-Kaku is a fun, interactive dining experience where you grill your own marinated meats and veggies right at the table. The garlic noodles and spicy cabbage salad are must-haves, and the price point makes it an easy favorite for both special occasions and casual hangouts. Just be warned—if you go without inviting them, Bonnee and Jon might hold a grudge.

Universal Studios Hollywood

Universal Studios Hollywood

100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, CA 91608

As huge Jurassic Park fans, Bonnee and Jonathan have a soft spot for this place. Between the epic Jurassic World ride and the magic of Harry Potter World (Bonnee may or may not have cried walking into Hogsmeade for the first time), it’s always a blast. There may be a group outing here during the week leading up to the wedding, and anyone who wants to join is welcome. The park usually closes by 6 p.m. in the fall to make way for Halloween Horror Nights—a spooky after-hours event Bonnee highly recommends for anyone up for a scare.

Knott's Berry Farm

Knott's Berry Farm

8039 Beach Boulevard, Buena Park, CA 90620

Both Bonnee and Jonathan have season passes to this classic SoCal theme park. It’s where Bonnee spent countless childhood days with her family, and it’s still just as fun. The park is known for its epic coasters—like GhostRider, one of the top-rated wooden coasters in the world, and Xcelerator, Bonnee’s favorite, which launches from 0 to 82 mph in just over two seconds. Tickets start around $62. In the fall, the park hosts Knott’s Scary Farm, an after-hours Halloween event with haunted mazes and live shows. Bonnee’s partial to Universal’s version, but Knott’s holds its own—and it’s a bit easier on the wallet.

Disneyland Park

Disneyland Park

Anaheim, CA 92802

The most iconic theme park in Southern California—and with good reason. While tickets for a park-hopper pass during the wedding week range from $191 to $250, the experience is hard to beat. From the detailed design to the seasonal decor, Disney does everything with magic in mind. California Adventure closes early on select nights for the Oogie Boogie Bash, but Disneyland Park stays open late. If a park day isn’t in the cards, Downtown Disney is a fun (and free) alternative, with themed shops, restaurants, and a great view of the nightly fireworks.
