We met as summer camp counselors at Tocaloma Day Camp. We started off as just friends, but after a couple “friendly hangs” at a board game cafe in 2018, we realized there might be something else there. We went our separate ways in September of that year–Andy went to Texas and Bobbie stayed in LA. This proved to be mere battle testing as we stayed in contact throughout the year. In the summer of 2019 when we returned to work at the camp, we decided to take the next big step together: an actual date (to Disneyland)! It was there we officially decided to be “boyfriend and girlfriend.” As another summer came to an end, we split ways one more time (while retaining our new relationship status), with Andy heading back to Texas, and Bobbie off to China to teach English. After this period of separation–which only strengthened the relationship–we both returned to Los Angeles. Now we spend our days with our sweet cat Imogen, watching Minecraft longplay YouTube videos.
Bobbie and I planned to go to the San Diego yarn crawl in September 2025. I knew that Bobbie loved all things yarn, and she wouldn’t say no to a full weekend of it. The real reason I wanted to go was that I planned to propose to her in Balboa Park. To hide the surprise a little more, I took her to some more fun San Diego activities: Gaslamp quarter, SeaWorld, and a Padres game. That Saturday, the two of us went to Balboa Park to “walk around and enjoy the sights.” When we got to the reflective pool in front of the botanical garden, I knew the time was right. We were fortunate enough to have a bystander record it. The weather couldn’t have been more beautiful, and the church bells rang as soon as she said yes. The image below was captured after she said "Yes!"
