We met back in 2018 through mutual friends. At the time, we were both seeing other people and even occasionally gave each other dating advice. Unaware we were each other's perfect match, and that the advice we were giving would one day apply to us. After three years of friendship, Victor dropped the bomb: he had feelings for McKenzie. She had recently come out of a bad relationship and wasn’t exactly rushing to fall in love again, but curiosity got the best of her. McKenzie asked Victor why he liked her (and followed up with about 100 other questions). As he answered, it became clear to both of them: something special was there. McKenzie felt seen and understood like never before, and in that moment, they both knew they were ready to take the leap. From the very beginning, even as friends, there was always a natural pull between us; a sense of comfort and familiarity we couldn't ignore. Since then, our journey has been filled with amazing adventures, including our first international trip together to France to visit Mckenzie's dad and stepmom, buying our first home, and getting engaged on Victor’s 30th birthday, February 17th, 2024. Best. Birthday. Ever. Our story may have started with friendly advice, but it turned into the best kind of love: one built on a strong foundation of friendship, trust, laughter, transparency and being totally ourselves. We truly are best friends first and foremost. And now, we can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter with all of you and discover what adventures lie ahead for us!
We rented a cozy cabin at Hocking Hills for Victor's birthday weekend. McKenzie even bought decorations and gifts for the birthday celebration, completely unaware that Victor had plans to pop the question. We decided to go hiking one day at Ash Cave, a picturesque spot with a waterfall flowing off the top of the cave. It was cold and snowy, so we cozied up with some hot cocoa while we watched the waterfall, and Victor started getting a little emotional. McKenzie, thinking he was just reflecting on turning 30, didn’t suspect a thing. After a while, it was beginning to get cold and McKenzie suggested we keep hiking. We made our way up some stairs in the cave to get a better view of the waterfall, and Victor asked to stop and look at it again. What McKenzie didn’t know was that both times Victor had stopped them to admire the waterfall, he was actually waiting for the perfect moment to propose. There were a lot of people around, and he was hoping for it to clear out so he could pop the question. Finally, the moment arrived. Victor got down on one knee and asked McKenzie to marry him. He was so nervous that he stumbled through his prepared speech (which McKenzie thought was adorable), and she, completely taken by surprise, said yes without a second thought. As a family hiking past us witnessed the proposal, they offered to take a picture, capturing the moment for us. We then hiked back to the car, and McKenzie asked all the questions, curious about how long Victor had been planning this and who else knew. When we got back to the cabin, the celebration continued. McKenzie’s dad had sent a special bottle of wine from our visit to France, one we had promised to open only once we were engaged. Victor had secretly packed it without McKenzie knowing, and together, we toasted to our next chapter.
