Things To Do

Chicago Architecture River Cruise

Wacker & Michigan, Chicago, IL

This is Laura's favorite thing to do with out-of-town guests. Enjoy a river cruise with explanations of Chicago's fabulous architecture. There is also a bar on board - don't miss the beermosa. These sometimes sell out, so consider buying tix in advance!

Eden Chicago

1748 West Lake Street, Chicago, IL 60612
, (312) 366-2294

One of Steve & Laura's favorite brunch spots.

Map Room

1949 North Hoyne Avenue, Chicago, IL 60647
, (773) 252-7636

Laura goes here so much she ended up on their Thrillist picture. Great beer bar (alcohol served after 11am), also serves coffee & pastries in the mornings.

Happy Village

1059 North Wolcott Avenue, Chicago, IL 60622
, (773) 486-1512

Steve and Laura went here for their first date. Dive bar with a great backyard patio - also a polling place!

Lakefront Trail

Lakefront Trail, Chicago, IL

This trail runs throughout Chicago along the lake. Great for a morning stroll. On Saturday mornings, the Green City Farmers' Market happens adjacent to the trail between Division and North Avenues.

Monk's Pub

205 West Lake Street, Chicago, IL 60606
, (312) 357-6665

Great place for a Friday happy hour - beer & burgers

Lonesome Rose

2101 North California Avenue, Chicago, IL 60647
, (773) 770-3414

One of Steve & Laura's favorite taco places. Also great margaritas.

Big Star

1531 North Damen Avenue, Chicago, IL 60622
, (773) 235-4039

One of Steve & Laura's favorite taco places. Great outdoor patio. Be prepared for crowds!

The Violet Hour

1520 North Damen Avenue, Chicago, IL 60622
, (773) 252-1500

Classy cocktail bar with phenomenal mixologists. Be prepared for lines later in the evening, and dress well - no sneakers allowed.

Caffe Umbria

346 North Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60654
, (312) 877-5166

Laura's favorite downtown coffee shop (and across from her old office). Grab an almond milk mocha and take it down to the Riverwalk.

Giordano's

130 East Randolph Street, Chicago, IL 60601
, (312) 616-1200

If you want to experience Chicago deep dish pizza, we recommend Giordano's. The location in Millenium Park is the most scenic - but also the busiest.

The Publican

837 West Fulton Market, Chicago, IL 60607
, (312) 733-9555

Great brunch spot, unless you're a vegetarian. Prepare to need a nap after.

Izakaya at Momotaro

820 West Lake Street, Lower Level, Chicago, IL 60607
, (312) 733-4818

Fancy Japanese basement bar. Delicious sushi, sake, and noodles.

Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago

5700 S Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, IL 60637
, (773) 684-1414

If you've got kiddos, this is a great museum - lots of interactive exhibits. And a full-size submarine!
