I was driving down I-20 headed towards Nacogdoches to visit my college friends when my poor little car overheated and broke down. I tried to make it back to Canton to at least get into a warm building until my dad could come rescue me, but gave up and parked in front of an unfinished but well-lit car dealership on the side of the highway. A security guard came to the gate to check on me and PRETENDED to know how to fix my car. I was finally on my way to my destination about two hours later when I realized that I had lost my debit card from my pocket and would have to shamefully go back to the dealership to see if I could find it. After about a half hour of frozen searching, I left my phone number with the guard in case it turned up the next morning. As it turns out, overnight security guards and single mothers of restless babies keep pretty similar hours. The guard who helped me on the side of the road became my nightly companion through catching up on my TV shows and comiserating about our shared exhaustion. On April 2, 2016, Brandon finally asked me on a date after listening to me gripe for months (hey, he knew what he signed up for), and I made the decision to take a leap. When people ask how I found the perfect life partner and father for my son, I always respond "I don't know, I just found him on the side of the road." We couldn't be luckier ♥. - Hannah
