How We Met

5/31/2023

We first met the modern way — on a dating app — but from the very first message, it somehow felt like more than just swipes and small talk. We spent countless late nights texting until our phones were about to die, talking about everything from our favorite snacks to our biggest dreams. Before long, our daily chats became the best part of our routines: good morning texts, random memes during lunch, and get-to-know-you messages long into the night. Eventually, those texts turned into phone calls that lasted for hours. We’d talk about absolutely nothing and somehow everything, laughing until one of us was crying, and telling stories that made time slip away. We were both completely hooked and counting down the days until we could meet in person. Joey planned our first date at the sweetest little meadery that had shelves full of board games. (We both got way too competitive during Scattergories, and yes, Bethany proudly took the win!) Afterward, we grabbed dinner at a cozy taco spot nearby, and between the laughter, teasing, and the easy way the conversation just flowed, it felt like we’d known each other forever. Neither of us wanted the night to end, so we took a long walk afterward, wandering and talking under the streetlights before finally saying goodnight. Two days later, we had our second date… and honestly, we never really stopped dating after that. For almost two years, we turned long distance into a game of tag — “you visit me, I visit you" — because, honestly, we were terrible at staying apart. Every flight and trip was a little adventure of its own where we shared new experiences with each other and learned more about ourselves. Eventually, the airport goodbyes felt heavier and the reunions far too short. We knew it was time to start building a life in the same place: our first real “home.” Joey began the apartment hunt for the three of us (including our four-legged sidekick, Bella), and Bethany found a new job nearby. Suddenly, the distance between us disappeared, and the ordinary moments became the ones we loved most.
