Benji & Lindsay

Landscape

Wedding Party

James Thurber

Best Man

In a groom squad filled with strong contenders, Benji's younger brother James ended up fending off the competition and winning the role of Best Man. The only catch? He demanded that he get to wear a bow tie. James and Benji grew up together in a log cabin in rural Vermont, and spent their childhood exploring the outdoors with their cat Slippers, and playing sports and video games together. While now separated by a couple states, they still find time every now and then to play Minecraft together online. And whenever they get together in person, there is sure to be a Mario Kart All-Cup Tour on the itinerary. James lives in Burlington with his wife Karyn and their two feline children Zara and Mina.

Edward Thurmond

Groomsman

Edward and Benji's friendship dates back to their elementary school days at the Green Mountain Waldorf School in Wolcott, Vermont. Over the years, these two have shared many memories and adventures together. From all-night gaming sessions playing Starcraft or Civilization to Bond movie marathons and pineapple pizza to hiking and craft beer festivals, to sharing literary recommendations and talking politics, Benji and Edward have built a life-long connection with each other. Perhaps one of their most memorable escapades was hiking Mount Rainier (without proper clothing or equipment) and toasting their success with a "Rainier" lager at Camp Muir. It was worth the photo-op (pictured below), but ended up resulting in Benji getting second-degree sunburns on his face and hands.

Jamal Cole

Groomsman

Benji and Jamal first met when they served together in AmeriCorps in 2010-2011. They quickly became great friends and ended up living together in Burlington after they finished their service year. While their team loyalties may be different (Jamal is a diehard New York Giants fan and Benji is a Pats fan), they spent many a Sunday afternoon and evening drinking beers and watching football together. Benji made the mistake of watching the second Pats/Giants Super Bowl with Jamal and had to suffer through Jamal replicating multiple Victor Cruz salsa dances, and an even more excessive celebration at the end of the game when the Giants came out on top. They also spent many a post-work evening talking politics, playing (video game and real-life) basketball, and watching NBA games together.

Matthew Werrbach

Groomsman

While Benji met Matt before any of his other AmeriCorps friends, these two actually started off as frenemies. Their bond grew out of a book, craft beer, and food club they formed with Benji's former VISTA leader Lauren called Infinite Beers (named after the first book they read together, Infinite Jest). This was objectively the best book club ever. The rest is history. Now colloquially known as "The Brothers Thurrbach," Benji and Matt have shared many adventures together, from hiking and biking the Vermont trails to sampling imperial stouts and barley wines to many games of Settlers of Catan (of which Matt has won disappointingly few). Matt still lives in Burlington but has on more than one occasion been spotted in Providence visiting Benji and resuming their shenanigans together.

Rajan Frantz

Groomsman

Benji and Rajan were first introduced by their mutual friend Tyler, and quickly bonded when Raj realized he had found someone who actually followed sports and was a fellow New England fan. From summer floats on Sterling Pond to all-day Sunday football sessions to beer festivals and tasting sessions, these two have shared a lot of memorable experiences together. They've also been able to stay in closer touch now that Benji is only a commuter rail train away from Boston. Raj is always the life of the party, but has also been the first to step up to clean up after a party, help Benji move from various apartments, and come to visit even when it's been a long distance away. Every groom squad (and bachelor party) needs a Raj.

Christian Chorba

Groomsman

Friends from the infamous AmeriCorps group, Christian was Benji's original AmeriCorps roommate (before he abandoned him to live in Hungary for a year and then go to law school). From unexpected flip-phone selfies to leaving the keys on the counter to "the Adjustment Bureau" to convincing one of his fellow groomsmen that Jamal's wife Callie's (another AmeriCorps friend) shoes were actually Jamal's, Big C and B-Spect have shared countless inside jokes together. The more worldly Christian has been kind enough to bring Benji out of his Vermont bubble by accompanying him on multiple trips north to Quebec, and a corn-filled week in Iowa for their friend Marissa's wedding. There are "potentially" other adventures I'm forgetting and I'm sure there are many more to come.

Tyler Kimberley

Groomsman

One of the "Three Waldorf Musketeers," along with Benji and Edward, Tyler is one of Benji's oldest friends. In elementary school they went on many outdoor adventures together, and have rekindled that connection as adults through countless hikes and post-hike revelry in Burlington. The Hellbrook trail up Mansfield was the hike that brought them back together, but their most impressive accomplishment may be their annual tradition (10 years in a row as of last year!) of hiking Mount Washington together. In the summer, on a hot Saturday or evening after work, you would almost always find Benji and Tyler (and various other friends) floating in inner tubes on top of Sterling Pond, with a cider or beer in hand, enjoying the breeze and the serene beauty of the mountains.

Leonard Badeau

Groomsman

As college roommates, Benji and Lenny spent almost as much time studying as they did playing Mario Kart against each other. Unfortunately, they also played Super Smash Brothers and Settlers of Catan. Needless to say if Benji gets hit by a blue shell on his way down the aisle, you'll know where it came from. A hockey player and econ major by trade, Benji and Lenny actually bonded over their shared love of literature and basketball. They also spent many a weekend night sharing a fancy meal at the Black Sheep Bistro along with Lenny's wife Cady. As adults, after Lenny moved back to Vermont, they resumed playing pick-up basketball, hiking, and watching the NBA together. Since Benji moved to Providence, they have sent each other many a several iPhone screen message about the latest NBA news.

Lindsey Eastman

Maid of Honor

My Maid of Honor! If you live with someone for three years of medical school you can't help but be BFFs. Lindsey is a badass Ob-Gyn resident living in Chicago right now. She loves running, cooking, Vermont, skiing, and any kind of adventure. Because of her, I survived the craziness of med school. She's originally from Sacramento, CA and fell in love with a VT boy (like me!). She lets me drag her on lots of hiking adventures even though she mostly likes it for the company :) She's my person and I'm so excited to have her as a part of my day

Ryan Miller

Bridesman

My Irish Twin! It's tough having a sibling so close in age to you and he was a biter, so our fights were epic as kids :) Nevertheless, he followed me to Colgate for undergrad and then to Michigan for grad school. He recently moved to Miami for a new job managing a bunch of hopsital's ORs. As soon as he moved, he was hit by a hurricane so basically what I'm telling you is that he's one lucky guy. He's an early bird and wakes up at the crack of dawn every morning. He has a really cute puppy, Ty, who was a rescue mutt and lives with him in Florida. He met his girlfriend, Sarah, when they were at Colgate.

Christopher Miller

Bridesman

My baby brother who has somehow grown up. He's a senior at Dartmouth College, a Computer Science major, and he's working on figuring out what he wants to do next. He loves snowboarding, rock climbing, hiking, and adventuring in NYC with his girlfriend, Kelsey. He and Ryan are both crazy bookworms as well. He's a night owl and is sometimes known to go to bed at the same time as Ryan wakes up.

Lily Monahan

Bridesmaid

When I was a senior in college, I was lucky enough to get another sister! My cousin, Lily, moved in with our family when she was 12 and our lives have been so much fuller since then. She's a sophomore at Syracuse University and loving life. She is a rockstar lifeguard and works on Cape Cod as a lifeguard every summer. She is a wonderful and kind friend and can always spot when someone needs a helping hand.

Lindsay Weir

Bridesmaid

The last member of the Lindsa/ey trifecta. Lindsay and I met at a bus stop on our first day of class in grad school when we were both very lost. We went out to lunch that day, and the rest is history. We lived together our second year of grad school in a house with about 50 stray cats and at least 4 raccoons. While I was in med school, she worked at Boston Children's in Infection Control and then when I started residency, she came and joined me on the dark side at Rhode Island Hospital. She has an adorable cat named Charlotte and loves the Patriots even more than me.

Shannon Brady

Bridesmaid

My hiking buddy and venting buddy from med school! Shannon is a 2nd year pediatrics resident in Salt Lake City Utah. She's thinking about doing a fellowship in pediatric critical care. She is taking advantage of living in the adventure Mecca of the mountain west and climbing and hiking as much as she can. She is someone I can go to whenever I'm having a problem or just need to vent, even 2500 miles away

Miles Grunvald

Bridesman

The last member of the bride's man trifecta. Miles is originally from VT, and currently lives in Chicago with Lindsey Eastman where he is a surgery resident at Rush. He likes to get into projects, and his current projects include fancy cheeses and fixing bikes. He also loves the Patriots and Lord of the Rings. He once tried to teach me how to play Call of Duty and through three games I failed to get a single point against him. He is the life of the party and watch out for 9pm because the shirt buttons will start coming undone.
