Only thing we can agree on is that we met our freshman year at Knox College. Emma maintains that we never talked until spring term after one of her (many) Terp dance performances. Ben believes it was at some point before that.

Despite a bumpy start to the relationship, it became pretty clear to both of us (and those around us) that we were in it for the long haul. We made it through two years of long distance, new jobs, and moving in together among other challenges. One of the hallmarks of our relationship is the amount of travel we do together. Ben’s job as a college counselor and Emma’s insatiable travel bug (not to mention the lack of children or pets) has allowed us to visit 5 countries and 14 states together so far. It became a running joke that everytime we went on a trip, Ben would be set up with a perfectly romantic opportunity for popping THE question. Some of the highlights include... Australia—hanging out at Ben’s childhood beach when his pilot friend disappeared and then a plane started spelling out “Marry Me Em...ily”. Maine—sitting oceanside in the wee hours of the morning wrapped up in comforters listening to the waves and talking about our future. Scotland—a sunrise hike up Arther’s Seat taking in exceptional views of Edinburgh. Vancouver—after a sunset hike up Grouse mountain, eating dinner at a city view restaurant between two couples that actually DID get engaged that night.
