Travel Note
Citizens of some countries need a visa to visit South Africa. Please consult your government's embassy or consulate in South Africa as well as the South African Department of Home Affairs to see if you need a visa. Regardless of whether you need a visa, your passport should have three consecutive empty visa pages for your trip to South Africa.
Travel Note
U.S. passport holders do not need a visa to travel to South Africa. You will need three consecutive empty visa pages to visit South Africa, whether or not you need a visa. Consider signing up for travel alerts from https://step.state.gov/step/ too.
Travel Note
As part of the fight against human trafficking, all minors traveling to South Africa should bring an unabridged birth certificate in their carry-on luggage, in addition to all other required travel documents. For a child traveling without both of the parents listed on his or her birth certificate, the child should also have a parental consent letter, a template of which can be download here: http://www.dha.gov.za/index.php/statements-speeches/621-advisory-new-requirements-for-children-travelling-through-south-african-ports-of-entry-effective-1-june-2015.
Flight
Guests can fly direct to O.R. Tambo (JNB) from ATL, IAD, EWR, and many European airports. If you're looking to spend time in Cape Town before or after our safari celebration, ATL and IAD both now offer direct flights. We'll try to connect guests on the same flights in order to carpool.
Travel Note
Guests may choose to self-drive. Prior to renting a car, please ensure your driver's licence validity will be reciprocated in South Africa. As in many Commonwealth countries, you must drive on the left hand side of the road. Seat belts are mandatory, and mobile phone use is prohibited. While in cities, keep your windows up and your doors locked. Do not pick up hitchhikers. Be prepared for bumpy dirt roads. Limited free parking is available at Jembisa.
Hotel
Guests can stay at this U.S. embassy approved hotel the night of July 16 to be ready to leave on the shuttle Monday morning. Join our WhatsApp group chat if you're interested in meeting up.
Shuttle
July 17, 2023 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
We have organized group transportation from Loftus Park in Pretoria. Shuttle service has also been arranged to depart Jembisa on Thursday.
House Or Rental
Jembisa can only accommodate 50 overnight guests, including children. Should we exceed that number, or if you do not wish to stay three nights, other accommodations are available in the area. Singles are encouraged to bunk with friends on our guest list to allow the maximum number of invitees to stay at Jembisa.
Travel Note
If needed, be sure to go with a trusted company, not someone random at the airport offering a ride. Recommendations we have received: https://www.ezshuttle.co.za http://www.saddlebagshuttles.com/ https://www.facebook.com/africanjourneys Try UberBLACK instead of uberX.
