Sarah went to the U.S. embassy in Bamako, Mali to get a legal document notarized. Ben was the consular officer behind the glass who served as her notary. Their interests were both piqued.
More than five years later, heading back to camp on the final day of their Tanzanian safari, Ben asked their guide to pull over at a scenic spot to take some pictures. Ben got down on one knee, reaching into his pocket. Out came Sarah's great grandmother's diamond ring, which he had sneakily taken from Sarah's nightstand back in Tunisia. He asked, "What do you say we spend the rest of our lives making adventures together?"
Africa is where we met, where we got engaged, and where we have lived for most of our relationship. We want to share this special place with you with a safari wedding celebration. Safari is the Kiswahili word for journey. What better way to celebrate our life together than sharing this journey with you?
To make the most of a trip to South Africa, we plan to celebrate with guests over multiple days, from July 17 through July 20, 2023, with our reception July 18. Guests will stay at Jembisa, or, if we exceed its capacity, at other nearby lodges. We will have group activities and meals at Jembisa. If you prefer to do you own thing and just come to the reception on July 18, that's totally fine too; just let us know! We hope that this website will orient you to our four-day three-night safari celebration. Please check out linked pages for answers to frequently asked questions, to learn how to reserve your spot, and more.
