Many thanks to our friend Mike Croneberger at MLC Wedding Films for capturing this!
Halloween weekend 2022. Shanna was in her pajamas and ready to spend her Friday night at home when she got a reminder text from her friend Meredith about going out for karaoke at a local bar. Shanna threw on an outfit and made her way to Cappy's in Shadyside with Meredith and their friends Josh and Libby. Being that it was Halloween, Rob and his fellow bartender, Mike, were suited up and serving up drinks when the crew walked into the bar. Meredith and Rob had been friends from years past...but hadn't seen each other in forever so they started chatting. Shanna asked Mer about the mystery man behind the bar, but Mer thought Rob was still in a relationship. Turns out, he was not! Later in the night, Shanna went back to the bar to order another round and a water - to which Rob responded "we don't serve that here." Since Shanna is a funny girl herself, she poked back "that's fine...I'll just die then." When Rob returned with her drinks, he extended his hand and introduced himself. By the end of the night, the two were chatting through Rob being an awesome bartender and singing away at karaoke. Since it was Halloween, Shanna picked up a pack of Starburst off the bar and was completely disappointed when she opened it and saw there was two pink ones inside. Rob looked at her with dismay and said "and here I was just about to ask you for your phone number..." He did still slide his beat up Galaxy her way and the rest, our friends, is history.
Shanna knew Rob was proposing to her the weekend she graduated from law school. Mainly because he asked her if it was okay to do it that weekend because he knew that she didn't want a proposal in a crowded room. But, also because Rob once asked when the family was coming into town and then immediately said he needed to call Shanna's mom, Sandy, after she answered. Not so sneaky... Surrounded by family and friends, Rob sang "Your Song" by Elton John to Shanna at Cappy's on a Friday night at karaoke - two and half years after they first met. It was an immediate yes.
