How They Met

Written by Taylor

The year was 2019. The weather was warm in early August, and the weekend was primed for a beautiful lake trip. Baylie had just graduated college a few months prior and had recently moved to Cincinnati when she was invited to Lake Norris with her friend, Megan. Fresh off a shopping spree at Target and TJ Maxx for some summer clothes, the timing couldn’t have been better. She eagerly agreed and headed home to pack her bags for the weekend. Taylor, on the other hand, was in the midst of a very different kind of shopping—yard saling. That Friday marked the start of the “World’s Largest Yard Sale,” and he and his brother, Brandon, rarely missed it. As they wandered through rows of VHS tapes and trucker hats, Brandon’s phone rang. It was Brian—Brandon’s best friend and, coincidentally, Megan’s brother-in-law. He was inviting them down to the lake for the weekend. Brandon hung up, turned to Taylor, and said, “Put down that garden gnome—we’re going to Brian’s lake house. Oh, and Ellen’s younger sister is bringing her college friends.” “Score!” Taylor thought. And just like that, the boys were off, headed three and a half hours south. During the drive, Taylor was casually scanning through social media, trying to scope out who these "college friends" might be. He kept noticing a cute blonde in a bunch of Megan’s pictures and thought, “Man, I hope she’s there this weekend.” When the guys arrived late that night, everyone was already having a good time playing cards. To his surprise—she was there! That same cute blonde he had seen in the photos was sitting right at the card table. He was nervous, but tried to play it cool. They hit it off right away, talking late into the night. Back home, Taylor was gearing up to leave for a trip to Colorado the following week. Not wanting to risk her forgetting about him, he immediately set up their first date for when he got back. He picked her up on his sweet 2003 Yamaha motorcycle, and off they rode—down to the river and across the ferry. And the rest, as they say, is history.
