Once in Italy, mask rules are largely the same as here. They are not required in restaurants, museums, and large stores but religious institutions, small shop owners, or health care facilities my ask that you wear them. Masks are still required on public transportation including trains and in cabs or ride share service vehicles. You still need a NEGATIVE COVID TEST with in 24 HOURS of your return to the United States. Flight
ROME We recommend most guest fly into Rome. It is where you are likely to find the best ticket prices and allows you to take a train into Spoleto if you aren't up for renting a car. FLORENCE If your pre or post wedding travel plans make Florence a more convenient airport to fly in or out of, it is not much further from Spoleto than Rome is and is also accessible by train.
Rental Car
Don't worry, they drive on the same side of the road as us! But please remember if you choose to rent a car, Rome is a bustling city filled with cobblestone streets and traffic circles. Your decision to rent a car or not, should be based on what you are planning to do during the rest of your time in Italy. If you plan to fly into Rome, come out to Spoleto for a few days around the wedding and then head back to Rome or travel on to Florence, you do not need a car. The robust train system in Italy, can get you to most large cities and tourist destinations. If you plan to spend time in smaller towns, ride share services may not be available, and a car may be necessary.
Train
UPDATE 5/2/22: There is a scheduled conductor-led train strike on Friday May 20th (this is a common occurrence in Italy - similar to a Teacher's strike in the US. Trains will still run just as kids still go to school). They will bring in alternative conductors, but some trains may still be cancelled. If you plan on traveling to Spoleto on 5/20, we recommend planning to take the earliest possible train. If the early train is cancelled, there will be several other trains that would get you to Spoleto before the Garden Party. If driving in Europe is more than you are willing to take on, there is a train from Rome into Spoleto. It takes about an hour and a half and you get to see 60 miles of the Italian countryside on your way. There are 15 trains each day and tickets start around $12 when you book in advance. Click on the VIEW button below to book your transportation by train!
