We're getting married!

For scheduling reasons, we met for our first date at Mead Hall in Cambridge on...Valentine's Day. It could have been a disaster, but we realized right away that we shared a similar sense of humor: Amy showed up in a dress covered in hearts and I offered her a Dunkin' valentine card. The date turned even more eventful when we discovered that my alma mater and Amy's current employer, MIT, just happened to be hosting the MBA 'student welcome' in the same bar. Over shared amusement that only MIT would host orientation on Valentine's Day, we crashed the event! We capped a lovely evening getting to know one another chatting with nervous new MIT students and enjoying the complimentary wine. It was the easiest, most memorable first date for either of us. The rest is history...

It was a few days before Thanksgiving when Tim's good friends asked us to accompany them on an architectural tour of the MIT campus. Tim and I arrived to an empty courtyard. As we stood in front of the MIT Dome (me wondering where our friends were), Tim turned to me and began reminiscing on some of the details of our first date. Just as I began to wonder what was going on, Tim said "in a way, MIT brought us together, so it's only right I ask you to marry me right here" before dropping to one knee! The surprises didn't end after I said yes. Perfectly timed, after I blurted out "I have to call my mom!" Tim pointed behind me where my (masked) mom and dad, sister and closest childhood friend - all of whom we had not seen in nearly a year due to the pandemic - were crossing the courtyard, ready to celebrate with us. Along with a few of Tim's close friends, Tim also made sure to include my best friend and her husband, 'face-timing' them in all the way from London to join in the surprise. It was a joyful afternoon, made even more special by having the chance to celebrate our engagement with close friends and family during such a difficult year. We once again thank everyone who helped make that day so special!
