Karly and Sam met in January 2022 after Sam bought his house in Mound, MN, 25 minutes west of Minneapolis and the last small town on Lake Minnetonka before Shoreline Drive turns into endless rolling farmland. Sam drove out from Minneapolis for his new couch to get delivered, which at the time was the only piece of furniture in the house. That night he went down the road to Surfside Bar & Grill to watch the Wild game, thinking he would drive back to his apartment in Minneapolis after the game. But it was here he met Karly, who was in the back corner of the bar with her friends Rick and Diana. Over the next several hours the four new acquaintances played darts in the corner of the bar, and the prospects of Sam driving home quickly faded even though Karly remained unimpressed by Sam's attempts at flirtation. Eventually the crew decided to hoof it back to their respective quarters. Despite the -15 degree winter temperature in Minnesota, as well as his best efforts to secure an invitation into the Basara residence for the rest of the evening, Sam was denied access and forced to walk a lonely 1.2 mile path home through the frozen tundra. Sam slept on the new couch that night, the first night he had ever slept at the new house, and texted Karly the following morning to ask her out. The two later rendezvoused for a first date in Minneapolis, during which they also played darts and Sam was also subsequently denied access to the Basara residence. The rest, as they say, is history!
