The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is a great place for zip lining, hiking, and leisurely nature walks. It is located about 3 hours away from Tamarindo. The Reserve consists of over 26,000 acres of cloud forest and 6 ecological zones, 90% of which are virgin forest. It has a high biodiversity, consisting of over 2,500 plant species (including the most orchid species in a single place), 100 species of mammals, 400 bird species, 120 reptilian and amphibian species, and thousands of insects.
Until recently, Arenal was the country’s most active volcano with an average of 41 eruptions per day. However, the volcano is currently in a resting phase. In Arenal Volcano National Park, you can go zip lining, soak in one of the many natural hot springs in the area, go hiking in a natural preserve, or swim under a waterfall at La Fortuna Waterfall.
Sky Adventures has a park in both Arenal and in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Both parks have ziplining, hanging bridges, guided walking tours, aerial trams (gondolas), and tree climbing. The Arenal park has the added benefit of tubing, adventure courses, kayaking, and biking.
