How We Met

From 1776 to 2021

We met while in a training class for Colonial Williamsburg in January of 2016. We realized we worked in the same department but just never ran into each other--Autumn originally wasn't even supposed to be there! A month went by, and we had our first date at Toys R Us picking out a birthday gift, followed with dinner and a spooky drive in Yorktown. The rest, is history.

The Proposal

37° 18' 2.16 N, 76° 16' 39 W

There is a lighthouse in Mathews we kayak to frequently. One time, Autumn ran up the steps of the abandoned lighthouse but stopped for fear of the ospreys guarding the top. On September 8, 2019, Harry brought Autumn to the lighthouse observation deck under the guise of showing it to her sister. Harry had stealthily placed an ornate compass on the information plaque for Autumn to find. Engraved inside the compass were the coordinates of the lighthouse with the words "Chart a course home. Will you marry me?" Autumn was living in Nebraska at the time, and she of course said yes.
