Question

Waaaait a second .. I thought you were married !

Answer

Yes, we got legally married on January 31st, 2017. That was a quick decision, as we had only just met but still knew we had found our person. Only a handful of people were able to spontaneously attend the little ceremony in Raleigh, NC. Since that day we always knew we wanted to have a formal wedding celebration one day. One that is important to us and where we can celebrate with all of our friends and family. Kata grew up in a small town of "Ort im Innkreis". Her mom was very involved in their little church and this is where Kata feels closest to her. Having a ceremony in her home church, celebrating our love and uniting in a spiritual way forever has always been our dream. Covid sure pushed that dream some years back, but we are so excited to finally have our big day filled with love, family and friends (and a lot of food and dancing!)

Question

What if I can't make it to Austria?

Answer

Choosing where to have our big wedding reception wasn't an easy one, but as we start our life in Austria we wanted to get married here. We absolutely understand that this isn't possible for all our friends and family, but we wanted you to know that you are important to us and we would have loved to celebrate with you.

Question

I/We have small children, what are my options?

Answer

As we approach our mid thirties, a lot of our friends and family members have been blessed with children. We know that this might impact your decision to come. Our wedding venue is a great and safe place for children which also includes an outdoor playground area. We want to make sure your kids have a great time, too. However, weddings in Austria are much longer than weddings in the USA. We do have 6 rooms reserved directly at the venue for those with small kids. Please contact us directly if you would like to have a room. This way you can put your kids in bed at the venue and keep celebrating with us. If you would like to bring a grandparent, friend, sibling, nanny, etc. feel free to reach out to us about them joining part of the wedding until your kids go to bed. We hope you understand that our budget isn't unlimited but we would love to work on a solution for you, so you can enjoy our big day and know that your child is in great hands! We chose to have our wedding on a long holiday weekend so some can travel without their kids and make it a quicker trip.

Question

Do you have a registry ?

Answer

Registries are mainly a thing in the USA. We do have a small wedding list on Amazon - you are able to send us gifts directly to our house in Austria. You can either ask us for a link our check it out under 'registry'. But most importantly - we are happy to have you as our guests!

Question

What should I wear ? Will this be a "traditional" wedding ?

Answer

Wear something that makes you feel fabulous :) No need for a tux, but dress to impress. Some Austrian guests might wear a traditional lederhosen or dress, but Kata and Mike won't. We might wear traditional clothes the day before during our informal rehearsal dinner. Most importantly: Don't forget your dancing shoes! We do recommend wearing summer clothes but maybe bring a light jacket. Nights can be much cooler in Austria.

Question

What's up with all those different traditions in the schedule ?

Answer

As we have a multicultural wedding there are some different traditions that will take part in our wedding. Starting with having traditional American wedding party (bridesmaids, and groomsmen), to "Brautstehlen" ("steal the bride"), "Brautliedsingen" (singing the bride to sleep) and other things - don't be intimidated. We will create a page as we go to explain those things ahead of time!

Question

I would like to participate in the wedding (Games, poems, speeches, ....) Who do I contact ?

Answer

While in Austria it is common to play games during a wedding or perform something, it is tradition in America to give speeches: Whatever it is , we would love for you to be a part of our wedding. Please contact Kata's sisters ahead of time, so we can make sure the schedule is on point and we don't have duplicated activities, (the same game twice for exmaple) We will create an email address for them so you can talk to them about anything that Kata and Mike shouldn't know before. For those of you who may have not met Bernie and Fati, they both speak English and German so don't feel intimidated to reach out.

For all the days along the way
