How We Met

Michigan Tech Winter Carnival 2015

We first met at Michigan Tech's 2015 Winter Carnival All Nighter. Snow was falling, campus was packed with statues, and the spirits were high (and flowing). Surprisingly we both remembered it the next morning and thanks to our mutual friends, were able to run into each other a few more times at parties throughout that winter. By the time spring hit, we had finally gained the courage to hang out without the help of liquid courage. After games of cribbage in my dorm room and a classic Finnish breakfast date at Suomi's, we knew that we both had found someone to spend the long Houghton winters with.

the proposal

10.24.18

Although the summer had been filled with jokes about proposals, we weren't expecting to get engaged until after Kyle's graduation in December 2018. So I was definitely not expecting a proposal when Kyle suggested a hike on a Wednesday after work. We hiked to the top of Mount Bohemia. While the colors were past their prime, the view of Lake Superior through the trees was beautiful as always. At the end of another gorgeous Michigan sunset, Kyle asked me to do this with him for the rest of our lives. I said yes to the best outdoor adventure partner a girl could ask for. We are excited for our family and friends to enjoy the Keweenaw, the place that has played an essential role in our love story. This is the place we fell in love and the place where we have chosen to start our lives together. See you in the Copper Country!
