Yes, very much so. The Global Peace Index rates Portugal as the 7th-safest country out of the 163 countries on its list. (For reference, the US ranks 131.) https://www.visionofhumanity.org/maps/#/
We will host events at Quinta da Bichinha on May 4-6, and everything else is up to you! However, for those of you traveling from overseas, we strongly recommend that you fly into Lisbon a few days early to give yourself time for jet lag and exploring the city.
For the welcome party, wear all white attire. We want you to be comfortable while looking sharp! For the wedding, we ask that our guests dress in Cocktail attire! Please note that most of the events are set to be outdoors, so we encourage breathable materials, and comfortable shoes. You can expect to walk on grass, gravel and cobblestone.
Typically early May weather in Lisbon ranges between 55-65 F, bring sweaters as it will get cooler in the evening.
No. Visa is not required. You will need a valid U.S. passport with at least six months remaining from departure date before it expires.
While we would love to offer everyone a plus one, due to the capacity limitations of the venue we have had to make some tough calls. Please check your RSVP for the names of those invited from your household.
Your RSVP will list who from your family is invited. For those bringing kids, babysitting, a playroom, and a playground will be available.
Us! We have a special inbox set up specifically to manage wedding preparations, so feel free to message us at aubri.jelani@gmail.com or text us directly.
Portugal's currency is euros, but most credit cards are widely accepted. We have found that American Express cards; however, are not readily accepted by most vendors due to their higher fees. You can take out euros from your bank in the US to avoid costly exchange rate fees at the airport. All meals and drinks at the venue will be covered, so you will only need to pay for things before and after your stay at Quinta da Bichinha.
Yes, of course. We will be asking for dietary restrictions and allergies on the RSVP form.
Yes, nearly everyone in the large cities will speak English. As you get into more rural territory, you'll find fewer English speakers, but everyone working in hotels will speak English. You could get away with traveling to Portugal without speaking a lick of Portuguese, but if you learn a few phrases, the locals will appreciate it! Google translate is a powerful tool, too!
This is a question for your service provider, but generally cell phone coverage in Portugal is great, even in the rural parts of the country. Most places also have free wifi. I recommend purchasing an E-Sim on Airalo, you can install before you leave the US and it will work immediately once you connect to a Portuguese cell tower. I've found that purchasing an E-Sim is significantly cheaper than my cell phone plans international packages, HOWEVER, if you have AT&T please double check with them as you may still get charged their daily international fee if you receive any SMS texts or phone calls while on the e-sim. <$5 for 1GB of data: https://www.airalo.com/portugal-esim
Unfortunately not, we will have the venue all to ourselves for the 2 nights (May 4th and 5th), after that we have to check out. There will be other weddings before and after us that week, so there is no option to extend your stay in the Quinta.
Yes. The water here is pristine. There are public fountains in all the cities where we fill up our water bottles. It's tasty and safe.
