Monastero Fortezza di Santo Spirito
Tucked away in a landscape of natural beauty and breathtaking views, the Monastery of Santo Spirito is a place where history and serenity intertwine. Founded in 1222 by Placido of Roio on land donated by Count Berardo of Ocre, it stands as the first Cistercian settlement in the valley of L’Aquila. The monastery’s rectangular structure, enclosed by high boundary walls, creates a peaceful retreat, almost entirely secluded from its surroundings. The architecture is simple yet elegant, with graceful arches, soft light, and beautiful old frescoes that tell stories of love, faith, and time gone by. It’s the perfect place to celebrate something timeless, surrounded by nature, history and beauty.
