It all started, like any classic American love story, with football. No, there were no Friday night lights, or tailgates; just, Maid of Honor, Jeanna Kim, owning an extra pigskin, with no intention of using it. Spencer and, Best Man, Nick Zazulia asked for the football, which Jeanna kindly offered to give away. Unbeknownst to the pair, Aspen had previously asked for the football (to this day, no one knows why) and had been rebuffed by her friend and roommate. When Spencer and Nick made the short trip to Jeanna’s room to collect their new football Aspen was aghast that Jeanna had denied her, while obliging these two, who were little more than acquaintances. The night turned out to be filled with fun and laughter, as mere classmates became the closest of friends. Over the next years Aspen and Spencer only grew closer, through the final years of school and into the always calm, smooth, relaxing, and never difficult to navigate “real world” of their early 20’s. Spencer credits Aspen for graduating on time, finding him roommates, and places to live, and jobs, supporting him through difficult times, and being there to celebrate with him in good ones. Aspen credits Spencer for her increased knowledge of sports, pushing her outside of her comfort zone to do things that she says she is afraid of (which is most things since she has so many fears), and keeping Mazel alive because we all know that Mazel would not survive without Spencer. Spencer is the calm to Aspen's not so calm. Finally, after a trip to South Florida, it became abundantly clear that the confines of ‘just friends’ was not enough for their relationship. On the drive home they decided to give their relationship a real chance, and promptly stopped for their first “real date” at the world famous… some Italian restaurant on the east coast of Florida. They returned to Winter Park as the couple that made all of their friends say, “Finally!” (If you are Aspen you read this paragraph as, “I locked him a car and made him date me.”) Since then, their relationship has taken them from the coasts of Southern California, to the icy winters of Minnesota, to the canals of Venice, growing more and more in love every minute. They have made houses (and on campus apartments) into homes, with their dog Mazel, a relatively even split of Bravo and ESPN, and vegan food that Spencer can add chicken to. Finally, after almost seven years together, on a walk through the park near their house, a walk they had done dozens of times, Spencer asked Aspen to marry him. At least he tried to, all he could say was, “Aspen,” before she started crying. Eventually, he was able to ask, and through the tears, she said, “Yes!” As the couple continue their journey, they are ready to celebrate with friends, family, and loved ones who have been by their sides the whole time. Many knowing even longer than they had, that they were made for each other.
