How We Met

11.16.16

We met on the online dating app Bumble. I was sitting at a bar with my friend Kai and she picked him for me. She said I needed to step outside my comfort zone and that we matched. She couldn't have been more right.

Our First Conversation

We texted through the app but I will NEVER forget our first conversation. I was in Orlando for our annual mother-daughter trip and I butt-dialed him. I was freaking out because he answered and we had been drinking margaritas all day. Thankfully he had to cut it short because he was out on the water with his Best Man Adam. The truth came out later after we went on a few dates.

Our First Date

Our first date was sushi and Thomas had gone to the wrong Bento restaurant that was across town. He told me it would take him 30 minutes to get where I am and he understood if I wanted to reschedule. I said I would wait he didn't know I was chatting with my best friend Gio, Angela, and Meghan to occupy myself. Also, because it was an online date and family should know where you are as a safety precaution. He held my door, said yes ma'am, tossed sarcasm with me, and the night felt different. We took a walk through Towncenter after the stores were closed with all the Christmas lights and decor everywhere. He took my hand and it was as if this was where my hand was meant to be. The conversation was filled with laughter and a few jabs here and there which he handled well. The night ended with a smile on both our faces and plans for a second date.

Our Proposal

11.28.19

We went on a group trip to visit friends in Colorado. We had made quick bonds with two couples, the Lynns and Smallwoods while enjoying a wedding weekend in a cabin together for Thomas's Best Man's wedding. While we were there we went on a trip to Vail mountain together and I was recovering from altitude sickness that hit me the night before. Everyone was determined to get me to the top of the mountain and I just thought it was because they didn't want me to miss out on the view. We spent about an hour at the top of the mountain taking in the view, getting pictures, and having lunch. I didn't know that the boys were helping him to scope out a good spot and the girls were trying to find a good angle for pictures. We were just about to head back down and I wanted to get one picture of us doing an acro yoga pose together at the top of the mountain cause why not. So I took off my boots and when I turned around there he was on one knee. I ugly cried so hard as he said some beautiful words I can't remember because I was in shock and staring at him like "are you sure." I won't forget his epic line, "Life is a sh*t storm babe and I want to go through it with you. I was wondering if you want to go through the sh*t storm with me too?" Most would find this line crude but for us and our lives, it couldn't have been more perfect. Our friends had carried champagne and two glasses up the mountain just so we could celebrate. We got engaged 11,570 ft above sea level at the top of Vail mountain. Me in my socks... him barefoot surrounded by nature and friends. Epic!
