It is a beautiful 3.5ish mile hike in North Carolina's Gorges State Park. We went early in the morning and didn't see anyone else on the hike down to the falls. We went after a huge rain storm so the water fall was insane! But even without a torrent of water, we highly recommend this hike.
Whiteside Brewery is located on the same grounds as the Laurelwood Inn, and it is quite the place! Featuring plenty of outdoor seating, a cabin feel interior, and plenty of craft brews to choose from, we highly recommend this brewery for our guests. It seems that most everyone in Cashiers would agree with us as well! Make sure to try some of their tasty appetizers too!
Whitewater Falls in the Nantahala National Forest and is the highest waterfall east of the Rockies. There are many hiking trail options around this falls. There is a great viewing area that has a small parking fee, restrooms, and picnic areas. This scenic access points gives you access to a short Foothills Trail which is family friendly and wheelchair accessible and takes you to the upper overlook to see the falls across the valley. From the upper overlook you can go down 150ish stairs down to the lower overlook which is also very pretty.
High Falls is just north of Lake Glenville. This is probably our favorite waterfall hike. This hike is short and rigorous as it is full of steps, but the falls is worth it. If you are at the base of the falls and cross over to the over side, you can hike up along the stone wall to the upper part of the falls.
The Biltmore is gorgeous! In November they will have the house entirely decorated for Christmas and, if you have time or do not feel like going on a hike, we would recommend touring this house and the property. Due to COVID tours are limited and we recommend booking a tour of the house in advance online. You also can choose to just tour the property, gardens, and vineyard (still lots of walking) which may not require booking in advance.
