There is so much to see and do. Here are a few of our favorite places in Germany and Europe that can be reached easily by car, train or airplane from our wedding venue.
Abenberg

Abenberg is a small town in Bavaria, Germany, with a rich history and a charming setting. While it may not be a major tourist destination, there are several interesting things to do and see in and around Abenberg. Abenberg itself is relatively small, it offers a tranquil and picturesque setting, making it a pleasant place to explore if you're looking for a more off-the-beaten-path experience in Germany. Additionally, the nearby region of Franconia has much to offer in terms of history, nature, and culture.

A half-hour drive or 45 min bus and train ride from Abenberg: Nuremberg is approximately 40 kilometers from Abenberg and offers a wide range of cultural and historical attractions, including the Nuremberg Castle, the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, and the historic Old Town.

1-hour drive, 130 km from Nuremberg – Rothenburg is a beautifully preserved medieval town. Walk its charming streets, visit the town wall, and see the iconic Plönlein. Explore the Christmas Museum and Medieval Crime Museum. Don't forget to try a Schneeball, a local pastry.

Ingolstadt

A short drive or train ride from Abenberg halfway toward Munich: Ingolstadt is a city in Bavaria, Germany, known for the Audi Forum and its museum of classic cars. Kreuztor, a 14th-century gate and the city emblem, is the entrance to the medieval old town. The 1723 Anatomical Institute has a botanical garden with medicinal plants. Asam Church Maria de Victoria is known for its baroque ceiling. The New Castle is home to the Bavarian Army Museum’s military history displays. Stay overnight at Hotel Adler in the heart of the city and enjoy their great breakfast and a walk around the old town.

Travel to Munich, the capital of Bavaria – 1 hour by train or 2 hours by car from Nuremberg or Abenberg. Explore Munich's iconic sites, including Marienplatz, the New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus), the Viktualienmarkt, and the Frauenkirche. Enjoy traditional Bavarian dishes and beer at a beer hall like the Hofbräuhaus. Consider visiting a museum, like the Pinakotheken or the BMW Museum, depending on your interests.

2 hour drive from Munich, 4 hour drive from Abenberg or Nuremberg. Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century historicist palace on a rugged hill of the foothills of the Alps in the very south of Germany, just north of Austria. It served as the model for Cinderella's castle in Disneyland.

3 hour train ride from Nuremberg with the high speed train ICE. Berlin, Germany’s capital, dates to the 13th century. Reminders of the city's turbulent 20th-century history include its Holocaust memorial and the Berlin Wall's graffitied remains. Divided during the Cold War, its 18th-century Brandenburg Gate has become a symbol of reunification. The city's also known for its art scene and modern landmarks like the gold-colored, swoop-roofed Berliner Philharmonie, built in 1963.

4 hour drive or train ride from Nuremberg or Berlin: Depart for Prague, a beautiful city known for its stunning architecture. Explore Prague's Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, and the Astronomical Clock. Enjoy traditional Czech cuisine in one of the city's charming restaurants.

6 hour drive or 4 hour train ride from Nuremberg. Travel to Vienna, the capital of Austria. Visit iconic sites like Schönbrunn Palace, St. Stephen's Cathedral, and the Hofburg Palace. Explore the Naschmarkt for a taste of Austrian and international cuisine.

7 hour train ride from Nuremberg or a quick flight from Frankfurt or Munich. Paris is the capital and most populous city of France. It's located on the Seine River in the north of the country. Paris is a global center for art, fashion, gastronomy, and culture. It's known for its Landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Cafe culture, Designer boutiques, and Architectural heritage.

Amsterdam

A quick flight from Frankfurt or Munich Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ capital, known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system and narrow houses with gabled facades, legacies of the city’s 17th-century Golden Age. Its Museum District houses the Van Gogh Museum, works by Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum, and modern art at the Stedelijk. Cycling is key to the city’s character, and there are numerous bike paths.

2 hour train ride or 3 hour drive from Vienna, Austria: Head to Budapest, one of Europe's most picturesque cities. Explore Buda Castle, Fisherman's Bastion, and the Hungarian Parliament Building. Relax in the city's famous thermal baths.

Barcelona

A short flight from Munich or Frankfurt: Barcelona, the cosmopolitan capital of Spain’s Catalonia region, is known for its art and architecture. The fantastical Sagrada Família church and other modernist landmarks designed by Antoni Gaudí dot the city. Museu Picasso and Fundació Joan Miró feature modern art by their namesakes. City history museum MUHBA, includes several Roman archaeological sites.

Venice

6 hour drive or 7 hour train ride from Munich: Venice, the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower offering views of the city’s red roofs.

A short flight from Frankfurt or Munich or a night-train from Munich: Rome is the capital city of Italy. It is also the capital of the Lazio region, the centre of the Metropolitan City of Rome, and a special commune named Comune di Roma Capitale. Too many historic sites, magnificent architecture, incredible pieces of art to mention in the city of Rome and in Vatican City.
