Rental Car
This is definitely the cheapest way to get down, especially if you're sharing the vehicle with others. We suggest renting on RentalCars.com because they have great deals with the major car rental companies. Folks from USA, just make sure you're comfortable with driving on the right side of the road! Also, most cars will be stick/manual so make sure to tick the box for an automatic car if you can't drive stick/manual. Renting from airports is also usually much cheaper than renting from within the city center, so if you're going this route, we suggest renting from the airport you're flying into.
Train
If you're not renting a car and you're spending a few days in London before heading down to Liskeard, or if you're coming from Heathrow airport, you'll be passing through this station. You'll want to take the Penzance train from the London Paddington station to Liskeard. You can book this now (but it'll be more expensive), or wait until 3 months prior and book on National Rail. Prices should be about $75-$100 roundtrip. Booking on National Rail is usually cheaper than other websites, so we suggest booking there!
Travel Note
If you fly into Heathrow and plan on train-ing around (no car), you'll need to pass through the London city center, regardless of if you're spending a few days there or not. Once you're ready to head down to Liskeard, you'll take the train from Paddington to Liskeard. Below are a few options to get from Heathrow to Paddington. + Uber, £40-£50 per car, takes around 40 minutes + Train (advanced booking on www.nationalrail.com) £22 round trip if booked in advance (open return possible), takes 33 minutes + Heathrow Express www.heathrowexpress.com £37 round trip per person if booked in advance, takes 20 minutes + London Underground (subway) £3 per person single trip, no advance booking needed. This is far by the cheapest option but can be a hassle if you have lots of luggage. This will take 60 minutes and you’ll need to change trains at Hammersmith Station. It’s worth downloading the CityMapper App for detailed instructions on which trains to take if you decide to go with this option.
Travel Note
If you're landing at Gatwick airport, you don't have to pass through the city center if you don't want to, and you can take a train straight down to Liskeard. However, if you want to spend a few days in London before heading down, below are a few options to get from Gatwick to London. + Uber, £40-£60 per car depending on where you’re staying. + National Rail Train to London Bridge, 30-45 minutes, £11-£14 per person, single trip, no advance booking needed. This is a good station to take the train to if you’re staying in Shoreditch/East London area, you can Uber from London Bridge. + National Rail Train to London Victoria, 30 minutes, £12-£20 per person, single trip, no advance booking needed. + Gatwick Express to London Victoria www.gatwickexpress.com, 30 minutes, £35-£50 round trip, advance booking needed. Please bear in mind that National Rail Trains and Gatwick Express trains a different and Gatwick Express will be more expensive.
